Ramsay Street:
A stunned Scott stutters that he was only trying to apologise. Charlene doesn't want to hear it and yells that she's had it with him. Tom and Jim run over, Jim warning that someone is going to get hurt (bit late there Jim). Tom calls Scott a wimp and accuses Jim of mollycoddling him. The kids go off to school and Shane and Tom laugh at how easily Charlene knocked Scott out.
At the Robinson's:
Jim fills Helen in on all the juicy details. Helen is amused and says it might do Scott the world of good but Jim that warns Madge will be disgusted with her daughter's behaviour.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is disgusted with her daughter's behaviour. Tom and Danny think it's excellent and Tom points out that Scott had it coming. Madge toddles off to patch things up with the neighbours leaving Danny and Tom to chat about the diving competition. Tom is crowing about how well Mike has come on with him training him but Danny is upset that he can't see how good a coach Shane was.
At the Robinson's:
Madge is apologising to Jim on behalf of Charlene and Tom. She is worried Charlene will ruin whatever reputation she had left. Jim leaves her to chat to Helen and goes off to work. Madge worries that she can't look after Charlene, she feels a failure as a mother. Helen thinks Fred should shoulder some of the blame. Madge confides that she rang him last night to “share the responsibility” but he didn't want to know. She moans that Charlene is very hard work, but admits that she loves her to death.
At school:
Mike and Nicky tell Scott he should apologise to Charlene again but he doesn't want to risk another black eye. She walks up and overhears him telling them that he wishes she'd never turned up. When she tells them she's going to hitch back home he starts to worry about her though and reminds her what happened to him when he got a lift with a stranger. She is insistent though - and he walks off declaring that it's nothing to do with him. She makes Nicky and Mike promise not to tell anyone until she's gone.
At the Ramsay's:
Fred arrives, demanding to know where Charlene is. Madge thinks it would have been better if he'd just sent her fare home. She fills him in on what happened with Charlene and Scott at the hotel room and he dismisses it as “puppy love”, insisting there's no problem and that he never had any trouble when Charlene lived with him. Cue the perfect opportunity for Madge to set him straight. He is shocked and Madge tells him it's time to face the fact that he neglected his daughter for years.
At a truck depot:
Charlene meets up with trucker Charlie and asks him if she can have a lift home with him. She can't wait to get back.
At the coffee shop:
Debra Fleming quizzes Daphne on the coffee shop, the Daniels Corporation and Shane Ramsay. Clive is very impressed by her, but is distracted by Daphne's French accent and decorations. He is still feeling green from his posh dinner. Mike and Nicky arrive and forget all about their promise to Charlene, blabbing straight away that she's hitching a lift back home.
Outside:
Scott is also blabbing about Charlene's hitching, telling Shane what's happened. Shane thinks it's up to Scott to sort the mess out.
On Ramsay Street:
Madge is waiting on the drive for Charlene when Shane comes home to get his car keys. He tells her not to panic - but Charlene's hitching a ride back home. Madge panics. Shane calms her down and says Scott and Clive have gone to the rescue (!)
At the truck depot:
Clive and Scott pull up in Bertha and Scott tries to talk Charlene into staying. He accuses her of running away again and says she can sort things out with her mum if she tries, and he really cares about her too. She walks away saying she's heard that one before. He follows her and asks her to give him another go and she reluctantly agrees, telling Charlie to go ahead without her.
At the Ramsay's:
Tom is surprised to see Fred in his living room, and tells him a few home truths. Madge joins in and says he should have paid more attention to their daughter than to Susan. They start arguing and Tom yells that they're as bad as each other, arguing when their daughter's hitch hiking alone. Fred's a terrible dad for trying to off load her and Madge is a terrible mother for always nagging her. They sit in a sulky silence.
Outside:
Clive advises Charlene to give her mum a fair go but Charlene's worried about all the questions she's going to get asked. She hopes Madge will listen to the answers this time!
At the Ramsay's:
Madge and Fred are still sulking. Charlene runs to her dad and gives him a big hug, she's delighted to see him. He seems a bit awkward and Tom pushes him to tell Charlene the truth. She checks that he does still want her to come home, and he insists he does - but there‘s not much room with the new baby. Added to that is the trouble she was in before she left - he thinks she'd be better with her mother. Finally he admits that things are a bit tight financially, that's why he hasn't been able to send any money. Tom reveals that Madge has been struggling to keep her there, paying for everything. Charlene is upset and shouts at her dad that he didn't want her at home and was happy when she left. He protests that he does, it's Susan who's changing things, but she isn't buying it. She cries and tells him he just doesn't want her.

At the pool:
Shane survives his dive, and it is declared perfect.
At the coffee shop:
Madge is on the warpath. She is about to kill Tom for sending her the flowers and pretending they are from Jack Lassiter. Daphne is confused and wonders why Tom would do such a thing. Madge reads her the poem and Daphne fumes that they've both been had (Des sent her the same one).
At the pool:
Clive is warning Shane he can't risk diving again. Mike does his dive and Tom goes into raptures. Shane praises Tom as a terrific coach.
At the Robinson's:
Madge tells Helen what Tom's done. Helen questions what she'd do without family and she replies “live happily ever after!”.
Outside:
Tom tells Des how good Shane was in the diving competition. Des is shocked he was diving at all. Shane says from now on there's no stopping him - whatever he wants he's going to get. Des warns him not to count his chickens - he's not going to lose Daphne again. Shane starts to protest that he wasn't talking about Daphne, but Des walks away.
At the Clarke's:
Lucy and Bradley are fighting over a board game. Des yells at them to keep the noise down, then tells Andrea that Lucy is banned. He's grouchy after talking to Shane. Andrea provokes him further, saying he's not doing well with his wooing of Daphne. Andrea tells Lucy she has to go home, it's time for Bradley to have a bath. They're entertaining Jack Lassister and she wants him scrubbed spotless.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge tries to brain Tom with a wooden hammer for his prank with the flowers. He insists he just felt sorry for her, and she gets even more angry. She yells at him to stay out of her personal life and goes off to have a shower. Charlene tells Tom it looks like his plan didn't work out, but he wouldn't say that at all… He saunters off to get a beer.
At the Waterhole:
Jack and Clive are discussing Shane's dive. Jack tells Clive he's going for dinner with Andrea. Debra Fleming comes in, asking about Shane. Jack tells her he has a great future ahead of him and she's impressed.
At Clive's:
Clive is admiring Mike's trophy. Mike asks if he's still going to pull the stunt with Des and Daphne and the cabaret that night. Clive thinks it's a great idea. Daphne comes home and Mike asks if it's okay to have a party that night. She agrees, then goes to interrogate Clive on the poems he's writing, telling him people are getting hurt. She's even more upset that he's charging for them, and questions what other plans he's getting up to with Des - she's suspicious about the cabaret but Clive points out that there's posters all over town, Des could have found out about it that way. Daphne insists she won't be won over by tricks and goes storming out. Mike thinks that will be the end of Clive's plans for Des and Daph but Clive has other ideas.
At the Clarke's:
Des thinks he must be banana's to have allowed Clive to talk him into the cabaret plan. Bradley comes out all suited and booted and Andrea is thrilled. He feels stupid and Andrea warns him to be good. Jack arrives and tries to shake Bradley's hand. Bradley has other ideas. Jack tries to bring him round by chatting about the outback but Bradley isn't impressed.
At Clive's:
Des is worried that things aren't going to plan. Clive reassures him that it's just a hiccup. He prompts Des on how to give Daphne the tickets - “Here are the tickets, you wanna go to the show or not?” Des copies, but fluffs the line when Daphne comes in. She tells them she doesn't trust either of them, then takes the tickets and says she's sure she can find a couple of friends to go with her. Bye!
At the Clarke's:
Bradley is questioning Jack on “modern” music. He wants to know if he likes The Oil. Jack has no idea what he's talking about and Bradley asks his mum why it's so hard for old people to keep up with stuff! He asks Jack what sort of music he likes and Jack answers Country and Western. Bradley scoffs that it's called “Country” music - it hasn't been called County and Western for years and years and years! Andrea puts on smoochy music and Jack says it reminds him of his past. Bradley asks if he keeps talking about the past because he's going to die soon and it's all he's got! Jack protests that he's as young as he feels and Bradley comments that he feels too old for his mum that‘s for sure. Andrea sends him off to his room.
At the Robinson's:
Nicky, Lucy, Scott and Charlene are all dressed up for Mike's party. Scott tells Nicky and Lucy to go ahead - he wants a word with Charlene. Lucy blows kisses at him so he shuts the door in her face. He asks Charlene if they can be friends again and apologises once more for the way he treated her. She kisses him and tells him that if anyone's dumb enough to want to be friends with her she won't knock them back.
At the Clarke's:
Jack tells Andrea she lets Bradley get away with far too much, he's old enough to learn some manners. She knows what the problem is - he loves Des and doesn't want anything to get between him and Andrea. Jack tells her he's willing to forgive him if he apologises, then moves in for a kiss. Bradley pops up from behind the couch screeching “I knew it! Couldn't wait to start smooching!” Andrea shouts at him to apologise to Mr Lassiter but he refuses - “What for? Breathing?!” Andrea loses it and Jack grabs hold of Bradley, bends him over his knee and wallops him

At the Clarke's:
Andrea shouts at Jack to leave Bradley alone. Bradley runs out of the room and Jack accuses her of turning him into a right little mummy's boy. Andrea throws him out and he leaves, conceding that she can call the shots in her place.
At Clive's:
Charlene packs Clive and Des off to the shops after threatening to drink beer if they don't buy them some soft drinks. Nicky and Lucy settle down to watch Date With a Star. Tonight's star is Grant Kenny - the Ironman's Ironman. Lucy can barely sit still, more-so when her name is pulled out as the winner. Nicky quickly bursts her bubble, pointing out that you have to be 16 to enter. What a waste. Lucy suggests that Nicky could make the phone call for her, then they wouldn‘t know how young she is.
At the Ramsay's:
Shane returns home for dinner and asks Madge if she managed to enrol them in the business class. She couldn't - there were no places left. Tom reckons they should just give him the money they were going to waste, he can teach them anything they need to know about business.
At the Clarke's:
Andrea is sulking because Bradley's lost her her job and sends him off to bed. Jack comes back to visit and Bradley warns him that Des will call the police if he tries anything. Andrea pushes him the rest of the way to bed and sits down to talk to Jack. She tells him she'll quit her job before she lets him fire her and he agrees that it might be best for both of them if she does.
At the Robinson's:
Lucy is day dreaming about the date with Grant Kenny and Nicky is being practical, pointing out that they'll take one look at her and send her home. Plus her dad will never let her go. Lucy worries that Grant is expecting her now and Nicky cruelly taunts her, saying Grant will think she didn't want to meet him. Although, if someone went in her place, someone who knew all about her… Lucy twigs and calls her a rat, this is what she wanted all along! Nicky protests, then says it's better than nothing. Lucy threatens to go and tell her dad and Nicky blackmails her, saying she'll tell him that Lucy lied. She offers to get his autograph as a bribe but Lucy's already got it. She wants next week's pocket money instead. Nicky reluctantly agrees.
At Clive's:
Scott is quizzing Mike about Charlene, he can't tell if she likes him or not. Mike doesn't know either. Daphne comes in with Shane, who is bemused to see them together. Daphne tells him that she had a great night and asks where Des is - she wanted to tell him what a good time she had. Clive points out that he's feeling miserable enough already but Daphne thinks it serves him right. Shane tells Clive that Daphne isn't the only one on the warpath - Aunty Madge is too. She's even more disappointed now her adult education classes have come to nothing. A light comes on over Clive's head, he thinks he can help. Daphne worries that he's going to take the classes himself and charge everyone the earth, but she's wrong - he knows a professional who can do that.
At the Clarke's:
Andrea asks Des how the cabaret went and he tells her he didn't go, things went wrong. She isn't surprised - Clive's plans always go wrong. Bradley comes out and tells Des that “that old bloke” last night bashed him. Andrea says he was asking for it but Des is furious.
At the Ramsay's:
Clive comes to visit telling Madge he brings good news. She threatens to wring his neck if it's another poem. It isn't, it's the business class. Madge asks him to put her name down, and Shane. What about Tom? He crows that he knows how to run a business better than the lot of them, as his toast burns away behind him.
On Ramsay Street:
Daphne is jogging with the world's largest walkman strapped to her belt. Lucky for her, it acts as a shock absorber when Des reverses his car into her. She falls to the ground and Des runs over, then yells at her when he sees she had headphones on. Daphne yells back and rants about how he can't ever stand up for himself and always relies on Clive. He grabs her and pushes her against his car, then kisses her. She joins in, then stands up and kicks him.
At Erinsborough High School:
Sue Parker is asking Charlene and Nicky if they watched Date With A Star last night. Charlene says they didn't because of the party. She is shocked when an Extra tells her that Lucy Robinson won a date with Grant Kenny but is sure it wasn't the Lucy Robinson. She goes off to the canteen with the Extra and Nicky confesses to Sue that it was her who won the date. Sue is green with envy. She bets Mike will go mental but Nicky isn't going to tell him.
At the coffee shop:
Shane tells Tom he's thinking of taking over the landscaping business from Clive. Tom doesn't think he'll be able to handle it on his own.
At the Waterhole:
Des has come to talk to Andrea about Bradley. She tells him she's going out for dinner that night, with Jack. He's shocked she's going after what he did to Bradley. She wants him to talk Bradley round. He doesn't want to - he plans on entertaining, alone, and wants her to take Bradley out with her.
At the coffee shop:
Madge is warning Tom to be nice to the business class lady when she arrives. He thinks if she was any good she'd have a real job. He reckons they're all a bunch of drongo's letting Clive con their money out of them and booking some old boiler who'd be better off knitting socks at home. He turns round to face Jean Richards, the “old boiler”, and is instantly smitten.

At the coffee shop:
Tom grabs a chair for Jean and tries to make up for his earlier bad behaviour. He quickly back pedals on his derogatory comments about adult education but Madge won't let him off the hook so lightly. Jean thinks he should come to the class that night, he might find it useful. He still doesn't want to, he's more of a practical man. Clive takes names of other volunteers. Tom thinks maybe he should be a guest speaker at one of the nights, and Madge invites Jean back to her place for lunch.
At School:
Charlene asks Nicky if it's true about her and Grant Kenny and Nicky cracks. She tells Charlene to keep it quiet - she isn't telling Mike as he'd be jealous. She insists she's just going to help Lucy out but Charlene doesn't buy a word of it. She agrees to keep the secret if Nicky gets her an autograph.
At the Robinson's:
Helen's picked up another client and tells Jim the business is getting there. She tells Jim about Clive's business class but Jim thinks his business skills are good enough. She thinks it might be a good idea for him to get out though, and says life goes on.
At the coffee shop:
Des sneaks up on Daphne and tells her she is going out to dinner with him that night. She asks if he's been drinking, then says it's a great pity he had to get drunk in order to ask her out. Besides, she's going to the business class that night. He manfully tells her that if she doesn't come round for dinner tonight he will never, ever ask her again. She smiles and agrees to go.
At the Robinson's:
Madge has come drumming up volunteers for the business class but Jim still doesn't want to go. Madge, Helen and Jean gang up and press gang him into agreeing to go. He asks Jean about her family but she's cagey and dodges the question.
At the Coffee shop:
Clive tells Daphne Shane's taking over the gardening business. She's worried because that's the only source of income he has. He informs her that she's talking to Clive Gibbons - C for Commercial, G for Genius. He has his finger in many commercial pies. In the meantime, Daphne thinks he can take over at the coffee shop for a while. She's off shopping for a new dress for her dinner with Des.
At the Robinson's:
Nicky asks Helen if she can go and study with a friend that night. Charlene is shocked at her lying to her Aunt's face! Scott comes out and tells them about a funny rumour he heard at school that day - Lucy winning a date with Grant Kenny. They convince him it must have been another girl with the same name.
At Paul's office:
Paul is busy on the phone when the other line rings. Debra Fleming comes in and rescues him by taking a message from the other line. She tells him she wants to make an appointment with him, for dinner that night. He is impressed by her outright approach but is worried he's too busy for dinner that night. She makes another offer - she'll be his secretary for the afternoon.
At the Robinson's:
Jim asks Nicky why she has such a large bag to go out and she pretends it's full of text books. Lucy follows her outside and Nicky tells her all her pretty clothes are in the bag. She's going to get changed in the ladies at the hotel.
At Paul's office:
Paul's work is up to date and he's keen to hear Debra's business offer - she wants to share his office and his secretary. He's wary, he doesn't want to share. She points out that she wouldn't be any competition then hints that he has to ask permission from above. He rises to the bait and says he doesn't have to ask anyone. They can thrash out the details at dinner.
At Clive's:
The business class is underway and Tom is showing off from the start. Jim asks practical questions in contrast to Tom's attempts to impress the teacher. Madge tells him to shut up or ship out.
At The Clarke's:
Daphne tells Des she hasn't felt so relaxed in ages as they share a candlelit bottle of wine. They are interrupted by the phone and Des can't let it ring. It's his mum. George wants her to go on a trip with him for two months and he gleefully encourages her to go. He tells her he's having dinner with Daph and she instantly asks if they've set a date.
At the hotel:
Nicky comes out of the loos dressed like a Green Soldier and bumps into Charlene - she's come for a nosy at Grant Kenny. He hasn't arrived yet and Nicky feels sick.
At the Clarke's:
Several hours later Des gets off the phone to Eileen. He and Daphne go and sit on the couch and she thanks him for all the trouble he's gone to. What she's most impressed with is that he didn't go to Clive for help. She wanted real romance, not a military campaign. He says Clive's better at all that than he is but she assures him he's not. They finally kiss, only to be interrupted by Zoe banging through the front door in tears and with about 20 suitcases.

Recap
Des and Daphne finally kiss only to be interrupted by Zoe returning with half a shopping mall in her suitcases.
At the Clarke's:
Des is grumpy to see Zoe and even more so when Daphne sends him off to carry Zoe's bags to her room. She sits down for a chat with Daphne and he comes back out and tells Zoe she must need an early night, but she'd rather have a cup of tea. Daphne goes off to make it and tells Des that Zoe needs her. Trouble is, so does he.
At the hotel:
Grant's PA comes up and introduces herself to “Lucy”. Grant comes out of a list and whisks Nicky off to the dining room.
At the Waterhole:
Jack is making Andrea laugh with his tales when Paul and Debra come in for drinks. Paul asks after Zoe, then comments on how she is roughing it these days going out with Jack. She bluntly tells him he can forget getting his hands on the Lassiters complex now…
At the Ramsay's:
Tom and Madge return from the business class and Charlene laughs that Tom has got the hots for his teacher. Danny wants to know if the classes will be useful - Tom seems to have changed his mind about them.
At the Clarke's:
Zoe goes off to bed and Des cheers up, but Daphne tells him she is off home to her own bed. She thanks Des for a lovely night and pecks him on the cheek. Poor Des.
At the hotel:
Nicky, Grant and his minder are having dinner and talking about the Olympics. Unfortunately for Nicky Grant is off to bed before even having dessert, although he kindly gives her permission to have the works! (On her own???) Before he leaves a camera flashes and he tells her you have to get used to publicity, then pulls her to his side so they can pose for a picture.
At Clive's:
Clive tells Daphne he wasn't expecting her home that night! It's 10 to 10 on a Friday night… She tells him Zoe is home, and unhappy, and besides - she wants to make Des work for her.
At the hotel:
Nicky tells Grant it's been the best night of her life and packs him off to bed. She stays talking to the PA and tells her she's amazed he's so normal.
At Debra's hotel room:
Debra tells Paul he needs to relax then undoes his jacket and attacks his neck. He awkwardly tells her they can't do this - not if they're going to be working together. She thinks it's because she's taken away the challenge and handed herself to him on a plate. He leaves and she calls her dad, she thinks he'll be interested to know that dinner with Paul went almost exactly as he'd said. She tells him that it looks like Lassiter might sell and she'll know more once she has access to his files. Once she's finished with Paul Robinson he won't know what hit him.
At the Robinson's:
Nicky creeps in to be startled by Lucy who is sitting in the dark waiting. She's desperate for her picture. Jim comes out and packs her off back to bed, then looks suspiciously at Nicky as she scurries off to bed too.
At the Clarke's:
Clive comes to visit Zoe and interrupts breakfast. Zoe is feeling sick and doesn't want Des's breakfast - nothing unusual, neither does anyone else! Clive asks Des when he is seeing Daphne again but he insists he isn't - he's giving up on her. Clive tells Des a woman hates a man who gives up so easily and sits down to tuck into breakfast, uninvited. Zoe takes one look and runs out to the bathroom.
At the Ramsays:
Charlene and Danny are playing golf in the living room. Madge calls them through for breakfast. Tom asks Danny if he'll run a few figures through his mate's computer at the weekend, then piles a stack of books onto the table. Madge asks them all to be well behaved that night - Jack Lassiter's coming for dinner. Tom - “A nice romantic dinner, with all four of us?” Madge smiles and says she doesn't mind if they “slip away” later…
At the Robinson's:
Charlene and Sue Parker are desperate for news of the night with Grant Kenny. Nicky beams that it was the most terrific night of her entire life, then boasts that Grant has given her his number and asked her to call him next week. Little liar.
Outside:
Jim is preparing the garden for his famous spring display. Clive, Scott and Mike return from an auction with a ton of boxes. Clive offers a box to Madge as a way of apology, telling her it's something she'll find useful. She opens it and finds a hearing aid! She storms off saying she's never been so insulted and Clive looks astounded - he thought they were ladies watches!
At the Clarke's:
Zoe is talking to Paul and fed up of people fussing about her.
At the Coffee shop:
Des has brought Bradley for a treat but Bradley's grumpy and wants to go and see Lucy. Des keeps trying to chat to Daphne but she's busy and Bradley is moaning about wanting to go. Des sends Bradley outside and corners Daphne, asking if they can repeat last night one day soon. She tells him she's busy with customers and he'll have to wait.
At Jack's caravan:
Bradley is talking with Jack about when Jack lived in the bush. He asks if he liked it so much why doesn't he go back there? Jack answers “You'd like that wouldn't you?” and Bradley says yes. Jack tells Bradley there's no need for him to feel scared he's going to come between him and his mother - he wouldn't even if he could as he respects the bond between kids and their mothers. Bradley gives him a rare smile and says maybe he's not such a bad old man after all.
At Clive's:
Clive is using Scott and Mike as slave labour to help him unpack all the strange things he bought about the auction. Zoe comes in looking for Daphne and Scott and Mike make a quick exit. Zoe goes dizzy and Clive makes a quick assessment of her before asking if it's possible that she's pregnant?

Scott. Lucy and Nicky are studying at the table. Scott asks Nicky what assignment she was doing with her friend last night and she says geography. He shoots back that she doesn't do geography and asks if she's seeing another guy. Bradley comes in to talk to Lucy and they leave them to it. He's sad that no-one cares about him anymore. Lucy says she will always be there for him. He thinks maybe they should get engaged, everyone else is. Lucy says he has to ask her properly and points to the floor. He reluctantly gets down on one knee and asks “Will you get engaged to me?” She agrees, then kisses his cheek. He wipes it off in disgust and yells what did she do that for?!
At the Clarke's:
Zoe is chatting about her trip and Des and Andrea go off to make coffee. Des asks Andrea if there's something wrong with Zoe, before guessing that it's a woman's problem. He thinks he should leave so that Daphne can chat to Zoe. Zoe tells Daph she's thinking of moving to the mountains for good, but Daphne thinks she's running away from something. Zoe cries.
At the Robinson's:
Bradley tells Nicky that he and Lucy are engaged and she thinks it's hilarious, then says they have to ask Jim first. She goes out to the garden and Helen and Jim come up, leaving Bradley with no choice than to ask Jim if he can be engaged to his daughter. Jim tells him he can't - they need to think about things for another ten years or so. Bradley and Lucy storm out and Helen laughs, telling Jim it's just an innocent phase they're going through. Jim insists that nothing Bradley does is innocent, he's probably already booked the honeymoon suite.
In the living room:
Bradley and Lucy whinge that no-one believes them. Bradley thinks they need a ring but he can't afford one. Lucy has an idea - her dad said she could have her mum's engagement ring when she got married, but it's too big. Bradley has an idea of his own. Scott comes in to congratulate them and asks if he can give the bride away. Nicky pretends to be shocked that Jim didn't give his blessing.
At the Clarke's:
Daphne knows Zoe's secret and is shocked that she still plans on going away, she'll need her friends around her now. She especially thinks that Jim has a right to know.
At the Waterhole:
Shane and Paul are drinking together and as it's Shane's round Paul would like a double Scotch. They discuss Shane's new business and Paul says it's a race between them as to who can make the first million. Shane is shocked when the bill for the drinks comes - Paul's Scotch is 7 bucks. Paul laughs that he shouldn't throw his money around, it's no way to stay in business. Shane switches the drinks and gives Paul his half a lager.
At the Robinson's:
Scott is listening to music on his headphones as Bradley saws through Lucy's engagement ring with a bread knife. Jim comes in and tells Scott that Basil has chased the leaves he'd raked up all over the garden and he'll have to do it again. Scott sulks out. Jim sees Bradley and Lucy's guilty faces and demands to know what they're upto. When he sees he hit's the roof and grabs Bradley by the scruff of his neck and marches him out of the door.
At the Clarke's:
Daphne is looking out of the window and sees Jim dragging Bradley in by his ear. Zoe runs out. Bradley comes in crying that Jim broke his ear and Jim answers that he will break something if Bradley keeps this up. Andrea is defensive of him and says there must be some explanation - oh there is, Jim tells them about the engagement and a huge row breaks out with Andrea finishing that he has no room to talk - “What sort of a man your age would be careless enough to get a girl pregnant?” Zoe appears in the doorway as Bradley murmurs “Wasn't my fault this time"

At the Clarke's:
Zoe admits she is pregnant to Jim but tells him she doesn't want to talk about it. Daphne convinces her she has to and they go out for a walk. Once they've left the building Daphne yells at Andrea for letting the cat out of the bag. Bradley wonders if Jim has a shotgun, for the shotgun wedding. Reminded of his presence, Des asks Bradley why Jim was so mad at him and Bradley tells him about trying to make Lucy's ring smaller for their engagement. Des is exasperated but Andrea thinks it's Lucy who's the troublemaker and vows to give Jim a piece of her mind once he comes back. Des warns her that she's given him enough to think about for one day already.
At Clive's:
Mike comes home and asks Charlene if it's true what Sue Parker's saying about Nicky going out with Grant Kenny. Charlene laughs and tells him how would Nicky know Grant Kenny? He won't believe her, especially when Clive comes into the kitchen with today's newspaper - with a picture of Nicky and Grant posing for all to see.
At the Waterhole:
Jim tells Zoe they have no choice but to get married. She refuses and says the baby makes no difference. Paul comes in for a Scotch and Jack tells him he'll take it over to his dad's table but Paul doesn't want to sit with him. Meanwhile, Jim is still trying to talk Zoe round, with no success. She leaves, telling him he's making things worse. Paul comes over and asks what's up. Jim tells him Zoe is pregnant - but Zoe thinks the child is none of his business.
At the Robinson's:
Nicky is worried about the article and what people will think. Helen reassures her that everyone in Australia knows Grant is a happily married man, but wants to know the full story. Nicky fills her in and Helen is unhappy at being lied to. She bans Nicky from having nights out, then calls Lucy over for a lecture too. Luckily Lucy is saved by the door - it's Bradley come to spill the beans about Zoe and the baby. Lucy doesn't believe him because people can only have babies when they are married. They argue and she tells him she won't marry anymore, before hitting him. He hits back and Helen comes in to separate them, sending Bradley home. He leaves with the comment that no-one will marry Lucy because she's too ugly! (Is it cruel to laugh even though this makes Lucy cry??) Charlene walks in and takes Nicky outside for a chat.
At Clive's:
Nicky comes over to explain things to Mike, who is busily drawing over the picture in the paper. He thinks she might still be lying to him now and tells her to rack off.
At the Waterhole:
Debra tells Jack her daddy wants to put an offer in for the complex. He wants to know how she knows so much information, but he isn't ready to sell yet. She asks him to keep them in mind when he is ready, and to keep their conversation a secret from Paul. He agrees but comments to the bar man on how ruthless she is.
At the Ramsay's:
Pandemonium is breaking out at the Ramsays as they prepare dinner for Jack. Madge is all dressed up and impressed with the bottle of Champagne he brings for her. He tells Tom he'd rather have beer, then proceeds to sing Andrea's praises. Tom agrees and Madge accidentally spills his beer on him.
At the Robinson's:
It's tea time but no-one is very hungry. The news about Zoe and the baby has put them off their food. Jim returns home and apologises for being late. Helen tells him that they know about the baby, Bradley spilt the beans. Scott shouts that he's a hypocrite for giving him lectures about Lennie, then getting Zoe pregnant. Lucy sulks that she supposes he'll have to marry her now and she doesn't like the idea. Jim says then she'll be pleased to know that Zoe doesn't want to marry him either. He walks out and Paul lectures that they should stop thinking about themselves and think what their dad must be going through.
At the Ramsay's:
Jack is still singing Andrea's praises but cottons on that Madge doesn't like her. She insists she doesn't mind her - in small doses. She goes off to help Charlene with the dishes and Jack asks Tom what he did wrong. Tom tells him Madge is worth ten Andreas and Jack asks if he's trying to tell him something. Jack realises Madge is keen on him and makes a sharp exit. Madge asks what Tom has said to him and assures Jack he was invited there as a friend and nothing more. He isn't convinced and leaves. Poor Tom is in for a tough ride!
At the Clarke's:
Jack calls round on his way home and Andrea comments on what a short meal he's had. He admits he put his foot in it. Bradley - “What, your tea??” Des sends Bradley off to bed and Jack tells Andrea he needs to talk to her, elsewhere.
At Clive's:
Clive is singing the praises of Daphne's lemon chicken. He's had three portions but still has his eye on Mike's - who is picking at it, worrying about Nicky. Mike leaves the table and Clive tucks into his dinner. Zoe says Daphne should use her lemon chicken to snare Des and Clive joins in, saying they're both mad to be dragging things out so long. She insists she's doing the right thing making him wait.
At the Robinson's:
Helen tells Jim Lucy is worried that the new baby will take his attention away from her. He says the way things are he probably won't even see the new baby. She lectures that he can't use a child to try and force Zoe to marry him, he has to wait quietly in the wings and see what happens.

At the Clarke's:
Jim and Des have a heart to heart about Zoe. Jim is worried Zoe won't go ahead with the pregnancy, or will have it adopted, and is upset she won't even listen to him.
At Clive's:
Mike is still moping round about Nicky despite Clive's cliched efforts to cheer him up. He points out that the For Sale sign has been taken down from the house across the road - it might be a stunning beauty who'll need Mike to show her round town… Mike doesn't want to know.
At the Clarke's:
Jim has left when Zoe comes home. Des tells her how worried Jim is but she doesn't want to know. Des presses that the baby has the right to have two parents and deserves better than a mum who's just “scraping by”. She reluctantly listens to him.
At the Robinson's:
Scott is studying at the table and chatting to Paul. Paul wants to know what he really thinks about Jim and Zoe. Scott still thinks he's a hypocrite for going mad about him and Lennie then getting Zoe pregnant.
On Ramsay Street the next day:
A removal van pulls up and Mike comes out to nosy.
At Clive's:
Daphne wants to know what's in Clive's boxes that everyone's been tripping over. He isn't telling, he's more concerned with the racket outside. Mike comes in and tells them the new neighbours are moving in. Clive wants to go out and show a friendly face. Daphne laughs that he just wants to sticky beak.
At the Robinson's:
Scott comes out for breakfast but is fed a nice chat with his dad instead. Jim apologises for his behaviour and says this is precisely what he didn't want to happen to Scott and Lennie. Scott gets angry and says at least he's learnt one thing from all of this - how to treat her properly. He wouldn't go thinking that she was something he owned and that he could do what he liked with. Now Jim gets angry too and says that isn't how he is treating Zoe. Paul joins in and says that's exactly how it looks to him. Jim stands up and says he wants to have a say over his child's upbringing but Paul asks whether he just wants the influence over Zoe? Jim walks out.
At Clive's:
Clive is combing his eyebrows when an old lady comes to the door looking for Daphne. She's the lady Daphne took to the French Cabaret and she wants to thank her. On her way out she asks Daphne whether she ever has left over food at the coffee shop - she wants it for the homeless animals in the area. Daphne's only too pleased to help out such a nice lady. The lady goes outside and almost faints by Clive's car.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is nosying out of the net curtains and Charlene teases her about snooping. She insists she's doing nothing of the sort. Tom comes out and makes no secret of looking out of the window - he's furious at the racket being made and storms out to give them a piece of his mind.
Outside:
Looks like the whole of Ramsay Street is now outside to see the new neighbours. Tom is going mental at the removal men and their loud radio. A row breaks out, only to be interrupted by Mrs Mangel demanding to know what is going on. She packs Tom off with the warning that she'll be keeping an eye on him, then shouts at Scott and Charlene for whispering. Next on her list is Clive who tries to smooth talk his way round her. This backfires when she says she'll be over for a cuppa in five minutes.
At the Clarke's:
Jim has come round to see Zoe again. She isn't feeling well but agrees to talk to him, telling him that she still needs more time. He says he loves her and knows she loves him, but she doesn't anymore. He is gutted. She says they can work out a deal about him supporting the baby nearer the time but she wants him out of her life. Charming!
At Clive's:
Mrs Mangel has arrived for her cup of tea and is very interested to hear about the night class that night - she supposes Clive has a license for holding the class here? Daphne picks up her things to go and see Zoe and Mrs Mangel's ears prick up again. Daphne quickly squashes her hints for gossip and leaves.
At the Clarke's:
Paul catches Zoe with her bags packed and asks what she's doing. She's leaving because Jim won't leave her alone. He tells her she can't just up and leave - she needs support with the baby. He has an idea - a friend of his has gone away for a few months and has left Paul the key. She can stay there. She isn't sure, but eventually agrees - as long as he agrees not to tell anyone.
At the Ramsay's:
Scott asks Charlene if she wants to go out to a milk bar - he'll treat her to a milkshake. She kids him about being the last of the big spenders. Madge is worried about the two of them going out so Scott promises her that he's changed and wants to prove to her and Charlene that he'd never hurt her. She smiles and agrees to them going out.
On Ramsay Street:
Jim's looking for Zoe when Paul pulls up and tells him she isn't there, she's left. Jim demands to know where she is but Paul won't tell him

At the Ramsay's:
Mrs Mangel calls round bright and early and comments on how chirpy Charlene is, considering the trouble with the Robinson boy… Protective Uncle Tom asks whether she expects her to wear a sign round her neck? Mrs Mangel barks back that it's hardly Charlene's fault, Scott obviously takes after his father. Haven't they heard about the fight between Paul and Jim? Madge pretends she isn't interested in gossip but Tom has no such qualms and asks what she's on about. She tells them both about Zoe being pregnant and Tom thinks it's a hoot whilst Madge is shocked.
At school:
Sue Parker talks to her mate about how Nikki and Mike still aren't speaking. She walks over and taunts Nikki by asking if she's heard any more from her superstar boyfriend. Charlene and Scott stick up for Nikki but she walks off in a huff. Mike starts to follow her but the bell goes, and Sue has no trouble convincing him that Nikki wants nothing more to do with him.
At the coffee shop:
Daphne is frosty with Paul despite his best attempts to charm her. He wants them to put the past behind them. She says she's too worried about Zoe to argue with him. He tells her she's staying at his mates place but he'll tell her to go and see Daphne for morning tea as soon as she's feeling better.
At Zoe's new flat:
Zoe drinks orange juice then collapses holding her stomach. Should have checked the sell by date….
At Paul's office:
Debra asks Paul where their secretary is. She comments that she must be very special if she's allowed to come in late like this. Paul says no, just very efficient. Debra wonders if she will be as efficient and Paul tells her it's not a competition. She smirks back that she always competes.
At Clive's:
Mrs Mangel calls round to visit, moaning about all her medical complaints. Clive thinks she should see a doctor but she thinks she can't afford it. She hints that it's much better to have a doctor nearby (and cheaper?). Clive smiles that he's no longer practicing but she continues to push. Deciding to track a different tack, Clive sits very close to her on the settee and agrees to help - why doesn't she pop into the bedroom and take her clothes off so he can examine her? Mrs Mangel jumps a mile in indignation and rushes out of the house screeching that it's no wonder he's no longer practicing!
At the Ramsay's:
Tom comes home to Madge and a list of jobs. He moans but things are about to get even worse - Mrs Mangel is here with her tales of what Clive has just done. Tom laughs that it serves her right for trying to get a freebie. They continue to bicker as Madge lets Mrs York in. She wants Tom to have a look at her gulley trap and couldn't phone because her phone's out of order. When she enquires how much it will cost he tells her he won't charge for such a small job and she goes away happy. Mrs Mangel on the other hand thinks he should have charged like a wounded bull…Mrs York can easily afford it.
At the coffee shop:
Paul asks Daphne if she's seen Zoe but she hasn't. He's worried that they're giving Debra a bad impression on her first day. Daphne thinks he should ring Zoe if he's that bothered, but he can't because the flat doesn't have a phone….
At the flat:
Zoe is lying unconscious on the floor.
At school:
Scott asks if anyone has seen Nikki. Charlene thinks Mike should go and find her but he won't. Sue asks Mike if he's going to the school dance next week and Charlene quickly answers that he is, with Nikki. Scott tells her Nikki can stand up for herself and they start to argue, leaving Mike free for Sue to sit next to. Nikki comes out, being followed by “Robert” who isn't happy to be turned down when he asks her out. He tells her she's second hand now anyway and Nikki looks forlorn.
At Zoe's flat:
Paul knocks on the door and gets no answer. He lets himself in and panics when he sees her on the floor.
At the coffee shop:
Clive is pleased at his new reputation as a sex maniac. The phone rings and Paul tells Daphne he's at the hospital with Zoe. She's got an ectopic pregnancy. Daphne says she'll come in straight away. Daphne asks Clive what an ectopic pregnancy is and he explains how serious it is. She asks him to mind the shop and rushes off.
At the office:
Debra is trying to break into a filing cabinet when Daphne barges in with the news that Paul won't be back for a while. Debra is flabbergasted at how unorganised things are around the place and Daphne angrily tells her that Zoe has just lost her baby. This makes things worse when Debra comments that no-one gets pregnant these days that has any sense. Daphne storms out.
At the coffee shop:
Clive greets Mrs Mangel as the woman of his dreams and she huffs that she should report him. He jokes that it must be the full moon affecting his condition. Mrs Mangel asks where Daphne is, then asks if she's visiting her “friend” Zoe. She takes a seat as Mrs York comes in for the stale food Daphne promised the stray animals. Mrs Mangel comments that they can't be selling very much if they have to give food away. She finds it very odd that a rich woman like Mrs York has to get left overs for her animals.
At the hospital:
Paul reflects that hospitals remind him of the time when his mother died. Daphne assures him he can go, she'll be fine waiting on her own, but he won't hear of it. A doctor comes out and tells them they can see Zoe, in the absence of her family. She explains to them that Zoe's chances of having another child are now considerably reduced, and can they let Zoe know? Nice doctor!
Inside:
Zoe asks if they've spoken to the doctor and how the baby is? Daphne tells her the baby isn't alive and she cries but says there'll be others. Daphne holds her hand.
At the coffee shop:
Mike tells Nikki he wants to talk to her and pulls her to one side. Scott and Charlene tactfully follow and watch as he asks what happened with Grant Kenny. Nikki insists it was nothing and Charlene agrees. Scott tells her to shut up. Nikki explains what happened and promises she didn't mean to hurt Mike. Sue comes over and comments “isn't this a cosy little party?”. Robert comes over to join in too and Mike tells him to rack off. He won't, and pushes Mike who drags him outside by his neck.

Mike is punching Robert's lights out. Des wonders if he should break things up but Clive warns him not to, Mike has to work this out on his own. Mike wins easily and forces Robert to apologise to Nikki.
At the hospital:
Paul is holding Zoe's hand and she thanks him for all his support. He tells her he cares about her a lot. Daphne comes in with flowers and breaks up the cosy scene, Paul scuttling off to work. Zoe cries about not being able to have any more children and makes Daphne cry too.
At the coffee shop:
Clive tells Des that Daphne's at the hospital with Zoe, who's lost her baby. Des agrees to mind the shop while Clive checks on Mike. He goes over to chat to Nikky who's blaming herself for Mike's fight. He convinces her that she should now stay and fight for Mike.
On a street:
Helen is walking with Mrs York and warns her that the kids will be calling round later, collecting for the school. Mrs York says she'd be delighted to help them, then collapses against a letter box.
At the coffee shop:
Nikki and Mike chat about what's been going on between them lately, Nikki saying she'll understand if he doesn't want anything more to do with her. Fortunately for her he wants lots more to do with her and moves in for a kiss, to be interrupted by Charlene chasing them off to school. Des stares after them, wishing he could re-capture young love. Clive tells him he should go after Daphne himself, swimming with sharks, leaping tall buildings and numerous other cliches. Do it Des!
At the Robinson's:
Helen is worrying about Mrs York. Paul comes in and breaks the news to Jim about Zoe and the baby. Jim gets up to go to the hospital but Paul stops him, telling him he should ignore what's happened - for Zoe's sake. Jim is gutted and asks Helen if he isn't supposed to have feelings too? She pats his arm.
At the office:
Debra asks about Zoe then suggests that they find someone else. Paul refuses. She questions whether he's sure he's only interested in Zoe for business reasons? He denies it, and agrees to go out for dinner with her.
At the hospital:
Daphne and Zoe, surrounded by a mountain of tissues, talk about being friends and being there when needed. Jim walks in and the mood quickly changes. He awkwardly gives Zoe some flowers he's brought and says how sorry he is. Daphne leaves them to talk. Zoe tells him she probably can't have any more children and he feels useless that he can't help, but she tells him she can if he stops letting her know how much he still needs her - they don't have a happy future together. He agrees, but says he'll always care about her.
At Mrs York's:
Mike bangs on the door but no-one's answering. As he walks away we see Mrs York peep through her blinds.
At the coffee shop:
Des asks Daphne if he can talk to her privately, but she's busy. She agrees to talk to him after work and goes off to the kitchen. Clive tells Des he can't give up but Des is getting sick of Daphne pushing her luck.
On another street:
Scott and Charlene are gloating about collecting six dollars more than Mike and Nikki. Eagle eyed Nikki spots Mrs York and they race off to try and raise their total. Mrs York asks them to come back tomorrow, she'll have to go to the back. Mike pushes and asks can't she at least tell them how much she'll give them? Nikki is horrified and assures her she doesn't have to give them anything. Mrs York protests that she will - tomorrow, and goes inside. Nikki is concerned at how upset she seemed and tells Mike off for harassing her.
At the Robinson's:
Jim is confiding in Helen about things finally being over with Zoe. The kids come in all hyper about their collections. Jim excuses himself and Helen tells them about Zoe losing her baby. They are shocked and Scott asks whether he should say something to Jim or pretend he doesn't know? Helen says it'd be nice if he could have a word to him so he goes into the living room and gives him a hug.
At the office:
Debra is on the phone giving away all the office secrets to her dad. Paul comes in and she pretends to be on the phone to a customer. When she hangs up she tells him a few deals that were in the pipeline are starting to come through… he congratulates her, not realising he's the deal in the pipeline.
At the coffee shop:
Daphne is looking at Mike's war wounds. She's sure there would have been an easier way to get Nikki back. Des barges in and asks her if she's ready to talk yet? She's still got customers so can't. He sighs and asks if she's ever heard the saying “A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do?” She answers that she has and he replies “Well this is what I've gotta do.” before throwing her over his shoulder and walking out with her.

Outside the coffee shop:
Des carries Daphne off and Jack comments to Shane that that looks like the start of a beautiful friendship. Shane replies a bit sadly that they finally got their act together and good luck to them.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is doing her small business homework at the kitchen table and Tom is boasting that he's already done his. Danny comes home and gives Tom all the paperwork he's put through his mate's computer. Madge accuses Tom of crawling to Jean. Scott comes round looking for Charlene but she's babysitting. Danny asks if he wants to go and see a movie but he wants to wait for Charlene. He's interested in Danny's little black book though and wants to know where he's met all those girls. Danny gloats that when he goes away at the weekend's he doesn't just work, he partays…
At Clive's:
Jean tells Clive she was at the hospital most of the day and he is concerned that she's exhausting herself. They are stopped from talking further by Tom arriving early, very early. He thinks Jean might like to use his computer printouts in the class that night. Clive teases him but Jean thanks him and goes off to prepare for class. Tom starts poking around the kitchen and asks what a cloth covered display stand is for. Clive moves him away and tells him it's for something he's doing after class, ladies only. Tom moans about discrimination
On Ramsay Street:
Des is still carrying Daphne, who's yelling at him to put her down. Mrs Mangel almost chokes in shock.
At the Clarke's:
Bradley is trying to make Charlene play games with him but she's studying. He tells her he's going to get Des to sack her because she's a rotten babysitter and she answers that she should be so lucky. Lucky, lucky, lucky. Des storms in and orders the pair of them to make themselves scarce before throwing Daphne onto the couch.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge asks Charlene what Bradley's doing there and she tells them Des wanted time to talk to Daphne. Mrs Mangel, who is talking to Madge, asks Bradley where he mummy is and he tells her “Mummy” is at the pub. She walks out decrying the state of the neighbourhood and Charlene tells Madge they might have to take Bradley to the class with them that night. Bradley protests and Scott promises to take him to see Lucy instead. Charlene to Bradley - “Come on, I'll feed you.” Madge - “To what??”
At the Robinson's:
Helen tells Jim she thinks he should go to the class that night to take his mind off Zoe. Lucy comes out and says she's sorry about Zoe and the baby, then gives him a big hug.
At the Clarke's:
Yuck! Des and Daphne are having the biggest love fest ever on the couch and Daphne appears to have a horrendous case of stubble rash. They finally come up for air and she asks him what it was he wanted to talk to her about. He says he wants to know how many kids she wants - after they're married… She stutters “Des…” but he says she talks too much and kisses her again.
At Clive's:
Tom keeps trying to peek into Clive's boxes when everyone (including Bradley who I thought was going to Lucy's?) arrives for the class.
At the Clarke's:
Des and Daph are still cosy on the couch and Des tells Daphne to say yes… she asks what the question is and he says she just has to say yes and he'll tell her the question after. Foolish Daphne says yes, and tells her the question was “Will you marry me?”. She accuses him of cheating, but says the answer is still yes - on one condition. Kids. Three's her limit.
At Clive's:
The boring class is going on. Tom keeps interrupting with sexist views about women and accounts. Jean comments that a lot of his accounts appear to be outstanding… and she can't use his examples because he's used people's real names. Tom and Madge argue about the best way to settle outstanding accounts and Jean asks Jim how he would handle things, his way being far the best of course.
At the pub:
Jack and Andrea discuss what they'd do with lots of money. Andrea wants romance but Jack is more practical.
At the class:
Clive asks the ladies to stay behind after class for a very special event. Tom complains that it isn't fair but none of the other men back him up. He leaves, grumbling all the way. Clive assures the women that this is going to be worth it.
At the Robinson's:
Bradley and Lucy refuse to look at each other until Scott sighs that only adults hold grudges. Bradley huffs that he told Lucy that Zoe was having a baby. She graciously concedes that he was right, and she's sorry. Does he want to get engaged again? He sits next to her and says he wouldn't mind.
At Clive's:
Clive unveils his secret business - a board full of ladies knickers. He tells them they are the finest French lingerie and available to them today at a special discount. Charlene asks how come if they're French the label says Made in Taiwan? Clive quickly says that's French Taiwan! Helen cries with laughter at the table imagining Mrs Mangel walking in and Tom is revealed at the window looking in. He laughs that he should go to the police and Clive laughingly calls him a peeping Tom!
At the Clarke's:
Scott returns Bradley and Des gives him the good news about getting engaged to Daphne. Scott is thrilled for them, but Bradley storms out.

Andrea reassures Bradley that he doesn't have to worry about Des and Daphne getting married, it'll all work out fine. He isn't buying. Des comes out looking for his aftershave - it seems Bradley knocked it off the shelf and broke it. Des asks why he didn't tell him and he answers why should he? No-one cares about him. Andrea tells Des that Bradley's just a bit worried, especially about where they'll live now. Des has been thinking about that - they can move into Eileen's unit! Bradley comments that he's throwing them out and Andrea isn't keen either.
On a street:
Nikki and Mike go to badger Mrs York for money again. She runs away from them.
At the Clarke's:
Andrea sends Bradley off to school assuring him that everything will be fine. Des offers to drive him but he thinks he's going to have to get used to walking. They have a little chat and Bradley reveals he's worrying that Des won't want him when he and Daphne have kids. Des hugs him and says he'll always want him, now how about that lift?
At the hospital:
Madge has been visiting Zoe and bumps into Jean. They chat briefly then Jean rushes off. A nurse casually comments to Madge that Jean's been visiting there for 12 years and Madge wants to know who she visits, her mother? The nurse smiles “No” and wanders off, leaving Madge to ponder.
At the pub:
Andrea is distracted and not concentrating on her job. Jack asks her to share her worries and she tells him about Des and Daphne. He guesses that she's worrying about where to live and offers her a room at the hotel. She says that's not all, Bradley needs a man in his life. Jack laughs that she needs a rich old bloke who won't take any nonsense from Bradley.
At the coffee shop:
Danny is still grouchy that Tom didn't give him anything for doing all the work on his accounts. Tom doesn't appear to notice and tells him how impressed Jean was with them. Jean comes in and Tom rushes Danny off to work, not wanting her to hear that Danny did all the work on the accounts. He asks Jean if he can join her but she doesn't really want company. He asks her what's wrong and she tearfully tells him she needs to be alone. He insists on taking her to the Waterhole for something stronger than a cup of tea.
At the office:
A temporary secretary has taken over Zoe's job, Margaret. Paul heads off to a big business meeting commenting that Rosemary will give him a big pat on the back if he can pull this one off.
At the Waterhole:
Tom and Jean talk about crying! Tom tells her he's shed a few tears in his time, when his wife died and when he was in Naam. He starts to tell her some of his nightmares but then stops and tell her the best thing to do when you're down is get out and kick up your heels. He asks her out to cheer her up and she agrees.
At the office:
Clive comes looking for Paul but has to make do with Debra. She is offish with him but he persists, telling her he's a business man himself and asking if he can leave some of his cards behind? She says she'll pass them on to Paul. He starts to leave, commenting as he goes “By the way, I'm also in ladies underwear.” She answers “Nothing would surprise me!”. Paul returns in a pig of a mood and Clive hastily leaves. Looks like the deal fell through - a new company beat him to it, and they look like they knew all his figures.
At the coffee shop:
Clive gives Des his bill for helping him woo Daphne. 300 bucks! Des is horrified. He shows Daphne but they are interrupted by Mrs York fainting at the counter. Des grabs her and sits her down. She comes round and says she'd just come in for the stale food for the animals… Des offers to drive her home as he's going past anyway.
At the office:
Paul is stomping round the office, still annoyed at losing his deal. He tries to file the paperwork away but the temp has taken the key to the cabinet to lunch with her. Debra tells him to go to lunch himself but he doesn't want to leave the office unattended - no problem, she'll look after it. As he is leaving Margaret the temp arrives back, and Paul asks her for the key back. She hands it over and he leaves. She smiles and hands a copy of the key to Debra, who says “Thanks Madeline, daddy will have a nice bonus waiting for you when you get back to the office.” Oh oh.
At the pub:
Andrea is looking at bridal magazines and Jack says she'd look great in one of them. She asks what she would do in a wedding dress and he says “Get married. To me?” She is straight with him and says she doesn't love him. He says he'd settle for having her like him. And he could get used to Bradley… She laughs and agrees to marry him.
At the coffee shop:
Clive is singing Debra's praises to Daphne. Mike and Nikki come in and Daphne gives them a bag of stale food to drop off at Mrs York's. Clive continues talking about his business plans and how he wanted to use a picture of Des and Daphne on his flyers to show how successful he can be. Shane overhears him talking about the engagement and looks unhappy, but then shakes Daphne's hand and wishes her all the best.
At Mrs York's:
Nikki hands over the stale food then Mike jumps straight in with his request for money for their collection. As she goes off to get some dosh he and Nikki speculate about how they're going to get megabucks from her. She comes back and hands over some pennies then closes the door. Nikki and Mike leave and we see Mrs York inside feeding her dog stale crusts, then eating the leftovers herself.
