At the Robinson's:
Helen is surprised at Mrs York only giving $1.00 to the collection but suggests there must be a good reason for it. Scott thinks he knows what it is - she's going loopy.
On the street:
Lucy and Bradley are delivering papers and discussing how they'll never see each other if he has to move to Perth. They ride past Mrs York who's struggling to turn on her outside water tap. Bradley manages to turn it on and says he'll run straight round to get Mr Ramsay to fix it properly, despite Mrs York's protests that it's okay.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is flabbergasted to hear that Jean's agreed to go out with Tom. He suggests that she goes to Lassiters tonight, parks her broomstick outside and has a look inside if she doesn't believe him. Bradley comes in and tells Tom about Mrs York's bathroom and he very grudgingly agrees to go and fix it - if Madge will iron him a couple of shirts for his date.
At Mrs York's:
Mrs York is very reluctant to let Tom in, telling him she's cleaned it all up herself. He insists on having a look and she finally lets him in. He is shocked to see an empty living room and she tells him she was burgled.
At the Ramsay's:
Tom rushes home to get ready for his date and says the problem at Mrs York's could have waited until tomorrow. Danny asks if she still has some valuable painting hanging in the living room and Tom says she has nothing at all because of the burglary. Madge thinks it's strange that they haven't heard anything about it. She drags Danny off to the garage to sort through some of her old furniture so Mrs York doesn't have to sit in an empty house.
At the Clarke's:
Bradley is still unhappy at Des's news and doesn't want to eat. Andrea comes home and thinks she has some news to cheer him up. Jack breaks the happy news about the wedding and Bradley looks ready to slit his wrists. He asks what he'll have to call Jack now and Jack tells him whatever he likes. Bradley replies “How about Grandpa?” Jacks tells him he thinks Jack will do just fine. Bradley looks sadly at Des and asks if he can still call him Dad and Des looks pleased as punch.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is giving Danny strict instructions on how to keep an eye on the dinner while she goes out to see Mrs York. She leaves and Danny struggles to even put on an apron. Tom comes in with a huge dirty mark on his shirt from trying to start his van and asks Danny if he could perhaps iron him a new shirt? He won't so Tom has to cover his shirt with a jacket. Danny burns water.
At Mrs York's:
Madge nosies around while Mrs York makes tea. They talk about Mr York and how much Mrs York misses him. Mrs York apologises for having nothing in, Madge caught her unprepared. Madge offers her her leftover furniture but Mrs York won't accept them (don't blame her, I've seen Madge's sofas!).
At the Clarke's:
It's toasts all round, including to Bradley and Lucy.
At Mrs York's:
Mrs York slips up and tells Madge how bad she feels letting everything go. Madge catches on straight away that she's had to sell her belongings and Mrs York admits she's got no money but can't give up her big house because her husband had loved it so much. Madge scolds her for spending all her life helping others but not accepting charity from anyone else. Mrs York is upset and begs her not to tell anyone.
At Lassiters:
Tom orders Jean's dinner for her and she is impressed at his knowledge of food. As he calls for the waiter she spies his dirty shirt but tactfully keeps it to herself.
At the Robinson's:
Scott, Lucy and Nikki are studying at the kitchen table. Madge comes in to see Helen and goes through to the living room. She tells her about Mrs York, disguising her as “this woman I know”. Helen thinks she could be entitled to meals on wheels but Madge assures her she's too proud. They go off to look at pamphlets and Nikki, who's overheard, guesses that they're talking about Mrs York. She feels terrible now for thinking Mrs York was mean and wants to make amends. Lucy chews thoughtfully on her pen.
At the Clarke's:
Andrea and Des talk about getting married at their age. Des wonders if she's having second thoughts and she insists she's not, although she's worried people will think she's marrying for money. She tells him she'll miss living there though.
At the Ramsay's:
Jean and Tom return home laughing and whisper about what a good night they've had. Tom invites her in for coffee but she has to go. She quickly tells him it's only because she's got an early start in the morning, and she hopes he'll ask her again soon. She pecks him on the cheek and he goes inside grinning like a Cheshire cat. “You beauty!”

At the Ramsay's:
It's breakfast time and Tom's all dressed up. Everyone wants to know what's going on but he insists there's nothing wrong with a man taking care of himself. He tells them he's taking Jean out again at lunchtime and Madge won't believe him. Charlene comments that there's two lady killers in the house now - Shane didn't get in to three o'clock that morning. Tom proudly says he must have been out “chasing skirts” and Madge is horrified, even more so when Charlene tells Danny he'd better hurry up - he's got a reputation to protect. He smugly tells her he does all right, thank you very much.
At the Robinson's:
Lucy is stuffing as much food into her lunch box as she can and Helen warns that she'd better eat it all. The kids go off to school and Jim asks Helen if he thinks Zoe would mind if he sent her a bunch of flowers? She is sure she wouldn't and asks if he's starting to come to terms with things? He sadly replies that he doesn't have much choice.
Outside:
Scott and Nikki meet up with Charlene and Mike and split into couples, holding hands. Lucy tries to do the same with Bradley and he quickly pulls his hand away. She asks why he won't and he answers “Because you're a girl! What if someone sees us?!” They stomp after the others who are now walking past a disgusted Mrs Mangel. She calls after them to think what an example they're setting to “the littlies” and Bradley shouts back “We're not little, we're engaged!” before grabbing tight hold of Lucy's hand and marching her off, then letting go again very quickly. They talk about his mum and Jack getting engaged and he thinks it will be alright living in the hotel but he'd still rather have Des as his dad. They get onto the subject of Mrs York and Lucy says she wants to show Bradley how she isn't eating properly.
At Clive's:
Clive is reading out his underwear ad from the newspaper. He's setting up a stall to flog all the junk he got at the auction. Daphne goes to let Jim in, he's brought a tiny bunch of roses for Zoe which Daphne strangely thinks she'll love.
On a street:
Bradley and Lucy sneak up to Mrs York's and leave Lucy's lunchbox on her doorstep. Bradley rings the bell and they run off.
Mrs York opens the door in confusion, but then sees the packet. She picks it up.
Coffee Shop:
Daphne is saving some buns for Mrs York - for the stray animals she feeds. Madge is forced to tell her that Mrs York eats the buns herself - she's fallen on hard times. Daphne is really surprised to hear this because Mrs York has such a nice big house, but Madge explains that the upkeep on the house is financially crippling. Apparently she refuses to apply for the pension either, seeing it as charity.
Outside the Coffee Shop:
A commotion is going on between Mrs Mangel and Clive. Mrs Mangel is outraged that Clive is selling ladies' underwear. Jack Lassiter is quite amused and explains to Mrs Mangel that he gave Clive permission to set up a stall, but he didn't know it would be underwear!
MRS MANGEL: I'm going to the police!
CLIVE: My first dissatisfied customer. Ah well.
Jack picks up some underwear and says he might buy some for Andrea - they're engaged. Madge is surprised to hear this.
The Pub:
Tom and Jean are having lunch. They are enjoying each other's company and chat about their lives. Tom says he's been on his own for ages, but he'd think about another relationship with the right woman.
Madge comes up at this moment and tells Tom he might have some competition - she saw Jean at the hospital with Clive. Jean hastily gets up, saying she's got an appointment to get to. Madge looks triumphant but TOm is upset, saying Madge never knows when to stop. He charges after Jean.
Coffee Shop:
Charlene, Scott, Mike and Nicky are laughing about the knickers. At the counter, Mrs York has come in to pick up the scraps for the "strays". Mrs York is surprised to see some casserole in the box with the old buns and Daphne explains she had a small portion left over, and even strays deserve a treat. As Mrs York is leaving, Mike and Nikki stop her and tell her that the gymnasium fund has been cancelled, so they want to give her her money back. Mrs York doesn't believe them and asks if they left sandwiches on her doorstep this morning. Then she goes back to Daphne and gives her the casserole back.
MRS YORK: I am not a charity case!
Outside the Coffee Shop:
Clive is still trying to flog knickers - in the rain! Mrs Mangel comes up with a policeman. The policeman tells Clive he's meant to have a licence, and they'll have to sort things out at the station.
The Pub:
Jack and Andrea are behind the bar. He gives her a wrapped present - it's French underwear from Clive's stall(!) Jack tells Andrea that he's had a couple of offers on the hotel, and he's thinking about having a change of scenery. He's thinking about going back to the bush. Andrea doesn't look very keen. Jack tells her that a wife's place is beside her husband!
A road:
Lucy and Bradley see Mrs York in her garden. She asks them if they left the sandwiches and they are forced to admit it was them. Mrs York tells them off and tells them not to leave any more food. But she knows Lucy and Bradley didn't mean any harm, and asks them to help them put a new collar on her dog.
Coffee Shop:
Clive is back from the police station - apparently they "threw the book at him".
CLIVE: It was sheer hell. First the interrogation and then the rubber hoses...but I wasn't going to sing, not this guy. They were tough, but they weren't going to out-tough me! I told them I was a citizen, told them I knew my rights! Dammit, this country was founded on the free enterprise system! The humble farmer with his hands in the soil...
Daphne laughs.
DAPHNE: Let me guess. They told you how naughty you were and let you off with a warning.
CLIVE: A very severe warning!
But it seems Clive hasn't been charged. Also, they confiscated all his goods! At least he got rid of the stock though(!)
Coffee Shop
Madge has got some groceries for Mrs York and Daphne offers to come round to see Mrs York with her. Madge knows Mrs York will be angry, but she won't have her starving to death.
Robinsons:
Lucy comes in and confesses to Helen that she took sandwiches round the Mrs York. Helen is surprised to hear that Mrs York is the old lady that Madge was talking about. But Lucy says that Mrs York is refusing charity or help from anyone. Helen explains it's Mrs York's pride getting in the way, but that's her right.
Mrs York's house
Madge and Daphne have arrived.
MADGE: Mrs York, we've brought you some groceries.
MRS YORK: You've got no right to! And you've got no right telling people that I need help!
Madge tries to reason with her - there's nothing wrong with accepting help when it's offered. It's not pity - they're friends helping out. But Mrs York won't have it and shuts the door in their face.

At the Waterhole:
Paul goes to order a drink and Jack tells Paul he might have a business offer for him. He wants to spend more time with Andrea and Bradley once they're married which means that Lassiters will be up for sale. Paul is very keen but once he leaves Andrea isn't as happy with Jack. She doesn't want him to sell. Jack tells her he makes the decisions around here, and if she doesn't like it there's still time to change her mind. Paul tells Debra about the offer and she looks surprised, and not too pleased either.
At the Robinsons:
Nikki is chatting to her mum on the telephone. After she hangs up she tells Helen and Jim she's worried about her, she sounded funny on the phone and she thinks she might be sick. Helen and Jim reassure her that she's reading more into it because she's missing her so much. They convince Nikki who goes off to study with Mike, then confess they think it might be more serious. Madge comes in and tells them about Mrs York living on scraps and leftovers. She's worried she won't have anything to eat that night so Helen leaves to save the day.
At the Clarkes:
Mike ducks out of studying to go diving. Nikki isn't impressed - what about her? Mike has an idea - why doesn't she do his homework for him? She flatly refuses and tells him he's slack. He leaves to go training.
At Mrs York's:
Helen rings the oldest bell in the world. There is no answer.
At the Ramsays:
Madge praises Shane for doing two jobs. He tells her there's only one thing that drives him on - Greed. He leaves as Tom comes home and asks what's for dinner, before walking into a row with Madge. She thinks there's something strange about Jean and wants to know why she's visiting someone in hospital without saying who. Tom tells her to keep her nose out.
At the Robinsons:
Helen tells Jim that Laura (Nikki's mum) isn't well and is going to see a doctor tomorrow. They agree not to say anything to Nikki.
At the Clarkes:
Des and Bradley are cooking dinner for Andrea. It's disgusting. She comes home in a bad mood because of Jack selling Lassiter's and wanting to move to the outback. Bradley is horrified too - what about him? There's be spiders and no-one to play with. He pulls out a silky black negligee and tells Andrea at least she has the right clothes - she doesn't want anything that'll make her too hot.
At Clive's:
Madge passes on Shane's apologies to Jean and Daph says she can't stay either - she's going for dinner with Des. The class gets underway and Tom keeps chipping in, telling the whole class about their dinner together. Jean is far from pleased.
At the Waterhole:
Paul goes off to the loo and Debra seizes the opportunity to ask Jack why he's selling his business to Paul when she offered him more money. He tells her that he offered the business to Paul a long time ago and his word means everything to him. Debra thinks he is crazy.
At a restaurant:
Daphne is surprised to hear that Des cooked dinner for Andrea before coming out to dinner with her. She asks him if he'll do little things like that for her once they're married and he promises her he will. They go all mushy and discuss having kids, they want to start as soon as they're married and have three or four. Daphne asks if he's going to tell his mum about the marriage and he jokes of course he will - after the wedding. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out the engagement ring he gave Daphne first time around. She is touched that he kept it - I'm sure it must be bad luck or something though, she should demand a new one.
At Clive's:
After class Tom asks Jean why she's giving him the deep freeze treatment and she tells him he embarrassed her in front of the class. He takes the huff and leaves. Clive says Jean's being a bit hard on him and she tells him she thought he'd have understood… He scratches his head.
At the Waterhole:
Ever the gentleman Paul leaves Debra to finish her drink alone and heads off home to bed. Shane comes in for a beer and Jack compliments him on the landscaping job he's doing for him. Debra joins them and asks Shane if she can buy him a drink. He refuses and she asks if her money isn't good enough for him. He answers “It's not your money I don't like - it's you!” She vows to make him regret speaking to her like that.
At Clive's:
Des and Daphne return, proudly showing off Daphne's new ring. Clive congratulates them and says it's all thanks to Gift of the Gab - cheap at half the price. Speaking of which…Des tells him $300 is way too much and gives him $100 - for doing only what one mate would do for another. Clive suggests there be a compromise then - he gets to organise the wedding. Des, Daphne and Mike leave him in the kitchen coming up with ideas - little boys, dressed as cupids! Little girls, dressed as cupids!
At Mrs York's:
Helen returns, bringing Clive with her as back up. Still no answer to the old bell though, although her dog is barking inside. Clive tries to get in through a window but is stopped by Mrs Mangel. Helen tells her this is an emergency. Clive goes round the bag and climbs through a window. Inside, Mrs York is lying unconscious on the floor.

At Mrs York's:
Mrs York comes round and is worried about Billy, her dog.
At the coffee shop:
Charlene is admiring Daphne's whopping engagement ring while the others discuss Mrs York starving. On to more important matters, Charlene wants to know if it will be a big wedding - reminding Daphne that Des shot through last time, before trying to run off (accidentally on purpose) with her ring.
At the hospital:
Helen and Mrs York chat about lost husbands and wedding rings. Mrs York confesses she's had to sell all her furniture and possessions to save her house. Helen says she should have called on Meals on Wheels to help but Mrs York was too proud. Helen suggests her friend comes to have a word, to see if he can help. Mrs York would rather go home - she needs to see to her dog. Helen insists that she can look after him.
Outside:
Clive and Helen bump into Zoe who is wandering the corridors before she goes home later that day. Paul is giving her a lift home. Clive suggests that she move in with him and Daphne for a couple of days and she gladly agrees.
At the Robinsons:
Paul goes to visit Jim and tells him Zoe is going home that day. He thinks it'd be a good idea for Jim to stay away at the moment though. Jim is put out, but agrees. He asks Paul how business is and Paul moans that he seems to get pipped at the post on every deal lately. Jim suggests that maybe there is a spy in the office. Paul scoffs, but agrees to have a think about it.
At the Waterhole:
Busy Paul has dropped in on his way back to the hospital. Jack has read his proposal and wants to know if he's told Rosemary yet. Paul wanted to wait until everything was complete and Jack thinks that's a good idea - he wants Paul to give him six months. During that time Paul will manage the company, and will have first option to buy after that. Paul is a bit miffed but agrees.
At Clive's:
Paul pours champagne for himself, Zoe and Clive. She is unsure whether she should be drinking but Clive encourages her. Paul leaves and Zoe praises Clive for his doctoring skills. She asks him why he left medicine and he spins her a line about never having done anything interesting in his dull and boring life - so he gave up medicine and bought a gorilla outfit. She doesn't buy a word of it.
At the hospital:
Des pops in to visit Mrs York in his role as bank manager. Helen has told him about her money problems and he's got a plan for her to consider - sell her house, buy a unit and invest the capital. With his bank. Nice guy! She worries that a unit wouldn't let her keep her dog.
At the Waterhole:
Paul is back and working over his dinner. He tells Debra about the six month set back and that he'll be running the place in the six month interim period. She suggests his first big decision should be to sack Shane Ramsay - his workers are lazy. Paul isn't keen but she presses that you have to be ruthless in business. He goes off to buy her a drink while she sneaks a look at his figures.
At the Coffee shop:
Des tells Daphne and Mrs Mangel that he's been giving Mrs York financial advice. Mrs Mangel feels the same as me - that it's terrible for a bank manager to visit a sick old lady in hospital and try to get her to sell her house. Daphne sends her off with a flea in her ear.
Outside Lassiters:
Paul tells Shane he is his new boss. Debra comments that he's way behind schedule and Shane asks what the hell it has to do with her. She leaves and Paul tells Shane not to talk to guests like that. Shane refuses to bow down and warns Paul to watch out for her - she's bad news.
At the Waterhole:
Andrea tells Jack she is worried about going living in the Outback. She was brought up in the Bush and doesn't want to go back to it. He says he didn't realise she felt like that. Willing to compromise she suggests they try it for a month. He asks “A month? I thought we might try it for a week. Once we get back - from overseas.” He's got them tickets to Paris. She almost strangles him with joy.
At the hospital:
The kids have come to visit Mrs York and tell her that they're going to help her out from now on -Scott and Mike will do her house and gardens, and the girls will do her shopping. She tells them she might have to move into a unit but they're good kids. Barely ten seconds after arriving, they leave.
Outside Lassiter's:
Debra is planning something with a mystery man - pointing out two of Shane's workers and telling him to wait until Shane leaves.
At the Robinsons:
Helen is looking sadly at a picture of Laura. She tells Jim that she'd phoned her and is worried that something is really wrong. Jim thinks she should get her to fly down there but she says Laura won't hear of it, so she's flying up there instead. She warns him not to say anything to Nikki.

At the Robinsons:
Helen warns Lucy not to get too attached to Mrs York's dog Billy because Mrs York will want him back when she gets out of hospital in a day or two. They go off to feed him and Nikki looks curiously at a photo of her mum, left on the settee by Helen.
At The Clarkes:
Andrea comes in full of the joys of spring and tries to tell Bradley her good news. He'd rather watch TV. She switches it off and drags him to the settee, where she tells him they're going to Paris for six months. She is staggered when Bradley asks if he can stay in Ramsay Street - he can't leave, he's engaged to Lucy. Flabbergasted, she asks Des to talk some sense into Bradley. He points out that he'll still be there in six months, as will Lucy. Bradley doesn't care and goes off to see Lucy.
At the Robinsons:
Bradley and Lucy are discussing the trip to Paris. Lucy is worried he will forget about her, but refuses to run away with him.
At the Waterhole:
Jack tells Paul about the trip and says they are going to “do Europe” with style. Paul assures him he will look after Lassiters while he's away. Jack confides that he's had another offer for the business - 1% more than Paul offered. Paul is shocked, not so much by the other offer but that it was 1% more, the same as all the other business he's lost out on lately. Jack isn't worried and says if Paul's half the businessman he thinks he is then he'll figure it out.
At the Robinsons:
Shane comes round to pick up his jobs for the night. Helen warns him he'll be busy then asks how the landscaping is going on. Shane tells her Paul is going to be his boss for 6 months then leaves as the phone rings. It's a booking for tomorrow to Chester, a trip of several hours. Helen warns that it'll be pricey, before hanging up. The scene cuts to the person on the other end of the phone - it is Debra.
Later, at the Robinsons:
It's dinner time and Nikki is worrying about her mum again. Lucy is worrying about Bradley going away. Jim is worrying about Lucy worrying about Bradley! Scott tries to lighten the mood by pointing out what a brat Bradley is and Lucy storms off. Luckily Shane arrives back to stop the fighting and Helen gives him the job driving out to Chester. She can't do it as she's flying out to Brisbane on business tomorrow. He's worried about leaving the landscaping boys alone all day, but can't turn down the money. Scott asks what business Helen has in Brisbane but she dodges the subject, saying she'll tell him when she gets back. Nikki looks suspicious.
At Clive's:
Daphne comes home and welcomes Zoe back. Zoe is impressed by her rock and congratulates her on the engagement. Clive comes home and tells Daphne to look after Zoe while he takes Madge to visit Mrs York. Zoe tells Daphne she's been speaking to her mother, hoping to talk everything through, but ended up saying barely anything and hanging up, then crying alone. She confesses that she misses Jim so much but Daphne is convinced she did what she had to.
At the hospital:
Mrs York sings the kids' praises to Madge and Helen. Clive joins them but tells Mrs York she can't go home that night. She is upset but perks up when he says he'll take her home himself tomorrow.
At the Robinsons:
Shane is back again, come to pick up Helen to take her to the airport. Nikki asks where Helen is staying in Brisbane and she is flustered, saying she's not sure yet. Lucy asks if she can stay home that day to say good bye to Bradley. Helen doesn't suppose it will do any harm, just this once.
At Clive's:
Andrea and Zoe have a little chat and Andrea hopes they'll be able to be friends when she comes back. Bradley apologises to Zoe for all the horrible things he did to her over the months. She hugs him and says Lucy will be waiting for him when he gets back.
At Mrs York's:
Clive and Madge have brought Mrs York home. She is thrilled to be back with her memories and her little dog.
At the Waterhole:
Paul and Debra are saying goodbye to Jack. He is still fussing over the bar and Paul has to practically throw him out. Jack finally leaves, telling Paul that Shane didn't turn up for work that morning. Paul assures him he can handle the business now.
At the Clarkes:
Des gives Andrea a wedding present and she hugs him, then thanks him for everything. He goes over to Bradley with a huge present. Bradley hugs him and says he's going to miss him.
At Mrs York's:
Clive returns home with shopping to find that Mrs York has passed away.
At the Robinsons:
Bradley comes to see Lucy and sadly gives her his comics. She hands over her favourite jigsaw puzzle and tells him she's going to miss him.
Outside:
Everything is packed into Jack's car and the neighbours have come out to say goodbye. Poor Lucy hugs Jim as Bradley goes to the car. He comes back and kisses her cheek, reminding her to wait for him because they're engaged. He goes back to the car and they drive off, Daphne squeezing Des's arm as he looks after the car.

Outside the coffee shop:
Mrs Mangel is disgusted to find Scott and Charlene kissing instead of at school. They protest that they only had sports that morning and she screeches that that's what they need - good, healthy exercise. She storms off to have a word with Daphne.
At Clive's:
Des is moping about Bradley going away. Daphne tries to perk him up and says Bradley can stay with them whenever he likes once they're married. He is thrilled.
At the office:
Paul is grumpy with Debra and she asks what's wrong - trouble at Lassiters? He protests that he can handle it. She asks what's happened with Shane and the landscaping? She still thinks he should fire him. Paul is adamant that he won't but she presses further, saying Shane works harder for Home James than for Lassiters. In fact, she bets he's working for them now instead of Paul… Paul takes the bait and picks up the phone to check.
At the Robinsons:
Jim answers the door to Madge and Mrs York's dog, but has to rush off to answer the phone. It's Paul, checking up on Shane. Of course Jim tells him he's off on a job for Home James… Job done, he goes back to Madge who tells him Mrs York has died. She's terribly upset and he hugs her, then sits her down for a nice cup of tea.
At the coffee shop:
Mike is worrying about Nikki. Charlene thinks if things aren't working out between them he should cut his losses and find someone else (I thought Nikki was her best mate??) She tells Scott she's never been sorry she dropped her old boyfriend. He kisses her and says neither has he. Mike interrupts them to point out that Charlene's dad is there. She is delighted and runs to give him a big hug. In the background Mike reminds Scott that Fred practically told her to get lost last time he visited, now he's all over her. Scott warily says that he's a con artist. Fred tells Charlene he's worried how her mother will react to him being back but Charlene is sure she'll be fine if she talks to her first.
At the Ramsays:
Madge is too upset about Mrs York to eat. Her mood is hardly improved by Charlene coming home early from school with a surprise - Fred. He begs her to give him a hearing, for Charlene's sake. Madge reminds him that he didn't want Charlene just a couple of months ago. She thinks he should go back to Susan and the baby but he answers that he can't - Susan has walked out on him. Madge is pleased, then asks if he thinks he can just come back to her to have someone to do his cooking and washing? He protests that he misses her but she's having none of it. Unfortunately for her Charlene isn't so hostile and invites her dad to stay for dinner.
At the hotel:
More problems with the landscaping job - the men had no-one to supervise them so dug straight through a main which is now flooded. Debra points out that Shane should be there to take charge. Even more problems arise when a man comes up and says there's an old bid out the back screaming her head off because she's fallen and possibly broken her ankle - her name's Mangel. Paul looks aghast and Debra mutters slyly that Shane had better have a very good explanation.
On Ramsay Street:
Charlene grabs Billy who's escaped from Jim. Charlene rambles on about her dad deserving a second chance, without actually explaining what she's talking about, and Jim looks on in confusion.
At the Ramsays:
Madge lectures Fred about how he only has himself to blame. He tells her it was just a mid life crisis and it will be different this time. He's learnt a thing or two now - and she comments “haven't we all”. She reminds him that the kids are messed up because of him and he guiltily tells her he needs them all now. She sticks to her guns and replies that it won't work, although not as frostily as before.
Outside the hotel:
Debra and Paul are fussing over Mrs Mangel who is taking full advantage of the situation. Paul comments that a twisted ankle isn't all that bad but Mrs Mangel is thinking of taking it to Court. Debra placates her with offers of compensation and they get her into a taxi, albeit still muttering about lawyers. Shane arrives just in time to take the brunt of Paul's frustration.
On Ramsay Street:
Mike is grumpy that Nikki's stayed at school studying instead of walking home with him. Charlene is in a hurry to get home too, to see her dad. Scott isn't happy and points out that he's just using her. She gets upset and accuses him of only thinking of himself - if her dad comes home she won't spend as much time with him and he doesn't like that. He tries to tell her that's not true but she walks off home sulking.
At the hotel:
Paul is still yelling at Shane who can't understand why his workmen didn't turn up that morning. Paul thinks he should have listened to Debra when she said Shane couldn't handle working two jobs. He wants Shane to cancel the contract. Shane accuses Debra of cancelling his workmen behind his back and vows to prove she's behind all this.
At the Robinsons:
Billy is pining for Mrs York and Jim can't get him to eat. Scott comes home pining for Charlene and takes over trying to feed Billy. He tells Jim that Charlene hasn't stopped talking about her dad and can't see a bad thing about him. He's worried what will happen if Madge and Fred patch things up. Jim confides that he is too.
At the Ramsays:
Madge has baked a cake for Fred, then coldly tells him to eat up quickly because it's a long trip back to Coff's Harbour. She thinks he has to get back to the business. Charlene bluntly asks her dad if he hasn't told her? He tries to squirm around things so Charlene tells Madge that the bank won't give him any money, forcing him to admit the bank are also going to foreclose on his mortgage. In fact, he's got a bit of a favour to ask - her engagement ring is worth ten grand and he thought they might sell it and clear his debts. Madge is horrified.

At the Ramsays:
Charlene asks Fred if it's true that the only reason he came back was to get Madge's engagement ring. He protests that he wants to get his debts behind them so they can start afresh. Charlene asks Madge to give him the ring but she flatly refuses (and rightly so!) and walks out.
At the Robinsons:
Billy is still refusing to eat. Lucy takes him outside to see Basil and Jim goes to comfort Nikki who's also sad about Mrs York. She's also worrying about her mum and Jim reassures her that she'll hear from her soon.
In Debra's hotel room:
Debra is on the phone to her dad discussing Paul, saying he has no idea. There's a knock at the door - it's Shane come to discuss how his workforce have all been offered better paying jobs elsewhere. He wants to know what she knows.
At the Ramsays:
Charlene is still begging her mum to give Fred another chance when Tom and Danny come home. Tom tells him to get lost. He agrees to get a room at Lassiters but refuses to leave until he and Madge sort things out. Fred spins a sob story about how he's been a fool and how he loves his family. It works on Charlene but Tom accuses him of having more front than Luna Park. They walk inside, leaving Madge to look after Fred all misty eyed…
At Clive's:
Nikki comes calling for Mike but he's out diving. Clive tells her the pair of them have to make up and she says that's why she's here. Mike comes home all excited - a couple of the guys on the diving team have dropped out and he and Scott are going to a competition in Manly.
At the Ramsays:
Madge and Charlene are having a heart to heart and Madge tells Charlene she won't be taking Fred back because of how he hurt her with Susan. She has a new life now but it hasn't been easy. Charlene can't understand why she wouldn't be happy for them all to be a family again. Tom and Shane interrupt the conversation with Shane's revelation that he's been fired from Lassiters. He tells them about the hoax chauffeuring job and his men going walkabout. Tom thinks it's typical of Paul not to give him a chance.
At the Robinsons:
Nikki is still moping. She wishes Scott and Mike weren't going away. Lucy asks Jim if Billy can go to the funeral. Scott comes in whistling and jolly and Nikki accuses him of not caring. Jim points out to her that life goes on. Scott thinks she should go and make up with Mike, then she'd be happy too. She reluctantly agrees to go and say goodbye - but anything else is up to Mike.
At Clive's:
Mike is all packed when Nikki arrives. She doesn't want him to go to Manly because his schoolwork's more important. He points out that he can study in Manly too and asks why they can't be friends anymore? She says there's no point - she has her study and he has his diving. Exciting life!
At the Waterhole:
Paul is struggling behind the bar so Fred steps in to give him a hand. Paul asks if it's true he's trying to make things up with Madge and Lennie and offers him a job behind the bar. Fred isn't keen but Paul persuades him to think about it. Shane comes in all fired up and tells Paul he's spoken to Debra and he's certain she's behind all his trouble. He warns Paul to keep an eye on her, and reminds him they're supposed to be mates.
At the Ramsays:
Madge has invited everyone back for a “gathering” (which Tom insists is a wake). Tom accuses Jim of using Paul against Shane.
At Debra's hotel room:
Paul arrives to have a word with Debra. He wants to know what she knows about Shane's business. She is disappointed that he'd think that of her. Paul caves in and apologises. She flirts and tells him she isn't interested in Shane Ramsay - only in him.
At the Ramsays:
Tom is still angry with Jim about Paul sacking Shane. Jim insists it's nothing to do with him. Fred arrives and is disappointed he wasn't invited to the party. Madge kindly tells him he isn't welcome. Daphne rounds up Scott and Mike to take them to the bus station and Scott apologises to Charlene for the things he said yesterday about her dad - he just wants her to be happy. They leave and Fred comforts Charlene by telling her that at least he'll be sticking around for her.
At the hotel:
Debra does up Paul's tie and wishes he was staying. He has to go and work. He's been undercut on every deal lately and has to go and meet a new client - one worth millions. Debra is keen to know all the details.
At the Waterhole:
Shane is on the phone inviting Jean (the business tutor) for a drink that night - on behalf of his Uncle Tom. Paul comes in and Tom repays the favour by having a row with Paul. It doesn't work, Paul wants Shane to quit the job first thing. He goes to meet his new client, who appears to be a private investigator. He confesses he thinks Debra is the most likely candidate for spying and reveals he's fed her a line about the new client.
At the Ramsays:
Madge is still aggro with Fred and Charlene's upset that she can't forgive and forget. Fred wants them to spend time together to get to know each other again. She just wants him to go back to Coff's Harbour and stay there. He gets the message, finally, and says he will on one condition - that she tells him she doesn't love him.

Outside Clive's:
A game of badminton is in full swing as Clive and Paul discuss wedding plans for Des and Daphne. They argue about who should give Daphne away. Daphne acts as peacemaker and insists that nothing can go wrong this time round. Zoe walks Paul out and he asks how she's doing, he misses her at the office. She says she's fine.
At the Ramsays:
Tom comes home and is rapt to see Fred at the table (!). He tells Madge not to bother setting a place for him, he's going out with Jean - not that she knows. She thinks she's having a meeting with Shane to discuss problems he's having with her classes. Madge is shocked but Tom won't change his mind. Charlene suggests they use the extra space at the dinner table for her dad, or better still he can take Madge out for dinner. She isn't keen but reluctantly caves in.
At the Robinsons:
Lucy is worried that Mrs York's dog still won't eat. Jim tries to tell her he'll get better and doesn't need a vet, but Lucy thinks he has a broken heart. Paul comes in and asks where Helen is. Nikki is confused - surely Paul should know she's in Brisbane on business? Jim distracts her, then tells Paul Helen has gone to look after Laura - and Nikki doesn't know.
In Manly:
A teacher shows Scott and Mike into their cheap motel room and warns them to get an early night, training starts tomorrow.
Back in Erinsborough:
Fred shows Madge into his (only slightly) more expensive motel room. He's embarrassed that he didn't think to book a table for them at the restaurant and now they have to eat in his room. Smooth. Madge is worried he won't have any money to pay for dinner until he shows her a personal loan he's got for $5000. Before she can start ordering champagne he warns that unless he can get a few more thousands “the heavies” will be after him to shut him down. He's in a bit of business trouble. Madge decides not to have a starter after all.
At the Waterhole:
Tom surprises Jean and tells her he's “filling in” for Shane, who's been held up. She says there's no point in her staying so he comes clean and admits he wanted a meeting with her alone. He presses her for a reason why she can't see him but she apologises and leaves. Poor Tom is gutted.
At Lassiters:
Madge is crying with laughter and Fred comments that she looks lovely when she smiles. He tells her he's taken a job in the Waterhole and will do anything to get out of debt. She is a little shocked, mostly that that means he'll be sticking around. She gets her things together to leave and he suavely comments that the evening doesn't have to end here. She apologises for the way she's judged him lately, and he answers that he doesn't blame her. He's trying to turn over a new leaf now and wants them to be friends.
At the Robinsons:
Nikki appears to have changed into Helen overnight and has cooked a huge breakfast for Jim. Obviously afraid her limelight is being stolen, Helen returns from the quickest trip to Brisbane known to man. Even Nikki comments on how short the trip was. She goes to brew up but Helen calls her back to the table and admits she's been to see her mum - she's got multiple sclerosis.
At the beach in Manly:
Mike is perving on a surfer chick and Scott drags him over to talk to her. She's Cassie Campbell and wants to know what two such good looking guys are doing there. Scott chivalrously carries her surfboard two yards down the beach for her, before she goes out to catch some waves.
At the Robinsons:
Nikki and Helen are having a chat about Nikki's mum. Nikki says the doctors can do anything these days but doesn't really know what MS is. Helen explains a few of the symptoms but says Laura is being very brave. Nikki wants her to come and live with them but Laura wants to remain with her friends. Nikki thinks in that case she should go to live with her, but Helen is worried about the impact on her education. She agrees to talk to her headmaster.
At Lassiters:
Madge drops in on Fred, still in his dressing gown. She has a gift for him - her engagement ring. She thinks she's probably the most stupid person who ever drew breath, but she's going to let him sell the ring and they can split the money between them. At least now he'll be able to stick around and be a proper father to Charlene. He think's she's an angel and will see her when he gets back from Coff's Harbour. She quickly asks why he's going back there, and he points out he has people to see, loose ends to tie up. He signs over the cheque from his personal loan to her and quickly sees her out.
At Clive's:
Clive and Zoe are reading the papers and discussing Des and Daphne's wedding. He wants to know where Zoe will live after the wedding and wonders if she wants to move in with him. She isn't sure, but he says he'll leave the offer open. But, he thinks they should check their compatibility - how about she cooks his dinner? She laughs as she realises she's been conned, but goes off to cook anyway. Jean arrives to drop off some paperwork and Clive invites her to stay for dinner, to Zoe's delight. Jean and Clive discuss Tom and how keen he is on Jean. She says she can't see him - she's committed. Clive thinks it's time she told Tom the whole story.
In Manly:
Mike and Scott are enjoying the sun on the beach when they see Cassie waving out at sea. Turns out she isn't waving, she has cramp. Tinny dramatic music plays as Scott runs off to get the boards, and Mike swims out to rescue Cassie. He grabs her by the chin and drags her back to shore, as Scott paddles about in the shallows then bravely rescues her surfboard. Safely back on dry land Mike dumps Cassie in a heap as a crowd gather round them. Scott praises him for being a hero as Cassie looks up adoringly at him and Mike blushes a neon pink to match her wet suit.

In the Robinsons' garden:
Lucy is worried that Aunty Laura will die like Mrs York. Helen tries to cheer her up by asking her what good things have happened while she's been away. Lucy perks up talking about Des and Daphne and their wedding and they go off to look at bridesmaid dresses.
Outside the Ramsays:
Fred is leaving and buys Charlene off with $50.00. She is thrilled. He gives Madge earrings but she's not so easily pleased - the money was meant to help with debts, not buy fancy gifts. He says he'll have much more money when he gets back and drives off. Madge isn't sure he will be back. Charlene is cross and asks why she can't give him a second chance, he's working hard this time. World War three is avoided when a crying Nikki comes along and tells them about Laura, she's leaving to go to Charleville right now. Charlene cries too and hugs her goodbye, then asks Madge why life is so rotten. She comments that their family isn't close like Nikki's is, which upsets Madge - who answers that her family means the world to her. Charlene argues that that can't be the case, she's just chased her father away. Madge reminds her that Fred left her for another woman but Charlene is too angry to listen.
On a street somewhere:
Helen and Lucy ask Tom if he's seen Billy. Turns out this is Mrs York's street, and Billy is lying on her doorstep. As they go closer you can see poor Billy isn't moving. Lucy kneels down and says he's gone to be with Mrs York.
At the beach in Manly:
Mike is chatting up Cassie who tells him she's a model. He's well impressed. Scott returns with drinks and she offers to show the two of them around town as they're new. She asks if they'd mind if she had a shower at their place and they quickly agree. Mike, going all starry eyed, stammers “It's a really good shower…” (!)
At the Robinsons:
Tom has buried Billy in the back garden while Helen comforts Lucy. Tom says bye to Nikki and says he'll see her again real soon. Lucy asks Helen what happens to people when they die and she reassures her that they pass on to a better life.
At Clive's:
Tom has come to ask Clive's advise about Jean, unaware she's doing the dishes in the kitchen. Clive invites him in to have a chat with her and repeats that it's time she told him what was going on. Clive leaves and Jean tells Tom it's impossible for her to keep seeing Tom - because she's married. He is flabbergasted and asks why she didn't tell him that in the first place. She explains that her husband is a quadriplegic who was injured in Vietnam. He can never leave hospital but she'll never stop loving him. She runs out and Tom chases after her. He thinks he should go with her to visit her husband, he was in ‘Nam himself and could talk to him, be friends even. She refuses and drives off. He watches her go sadly.
At the Robinsons:
Another sad scene as Nikki says goodbye to Lucy. She makes her promise to write and tell her all about the wedding.
In Manly:
Mike shows Cassie into his room and comments that it's “Not much, but it'll do.” She wants to know what it'll do for… Mike is flummoxed. She asks if he's into saving water as she goes off to the shower, then laughs “never mind” as she catches the look on his face.
At the Ramsays:
Madge and Charlene are bickering again and Charlene goes on yet again about Madge not giving Fred a fair go. Madge sits her down and says she wants the family back together too, but would have to be very sure Fred had changed before she even considered taking him back. Charlene huffs that she wants some time to herself and thinks she'll go and spend a couple of days with Scott and Mike. Madge, shocked, flatly refuses and Charlene storms out.
In Manly:
Mike offers Cassie a juice but she wants something stronger. He apologises that their coach won't allow booze but she moans that she needs something to warm her up. Pleased, he offers her a coffee (come on Mike!) but she doesn't drink coffee because it's bad for you. At a loss now, Mike is all out of drinks ideas. Luckily for him Cassie doesn't give up so easily and tells him she really wants to thank him properly for rescuing her. She kisses him, as Scott returns home to find the door locked. He tactfully bangs on the door until Mike answers, then is almost as naпve as Mike was when Mike tries to explain what's going on. Finally getting the message he agrees to give Mike and Cassie some time together, then sits down to wait right outside the hotel room!
Outside the Robinson's:
Nikki is all packed to go and hugs Clive who promises to say goodbye to Mike for her. Helen rushes her along and they drive off.
In Manly:
The coach arrives to find Scott sitting in the corridor. He wants to know what's going on and Scott quickly says Mike's having a nap and he didn't want to disturb him. The coach is obviously as dumb as Mike and Scott because he falls for this and wanders off. Mike comes out to let Scott back into the room. Cassie is all packed to go and promises she'll see Mike tomorrow. Mike gloats “Well Scotty old son, some of us have got it and some of us haven't.” before sauntering off to lay down and rest that big head. Scott shakes his head. Little does he know his troubles are about to increase ten fold…
At the Ramsays:
Tom returns home and pours out his troubles with Jean to Madge. She is sorry, then tells him she has troubles of her own. She's shut Charlene in her room until she apologises because she's fed up of boy crazy teenagers (She should meet Cassie!). Tom laughs that it's natural at that age. The smile is quickly wiped off his face when Madge opens a letter on the kitchen table and reads a note from Charlene - she's gone off to be with Scott Robinson…

At the Ramsays:
Tom reads the note again and says Scott must be behind this. It's the motel room incident all over again. He thinks Scott has gone off the rails because of the example he's been set by Jim carrying on with Zoe. Madge panicks that anything could be happening. Shane comes home and tries to calm things but they run out to the Robinson's to confront Jim.
At the Robinsons:
Jim is praising Nikki and the way she's gone home to look after her mum. He remarks that some kids turn out really well and Helen answers “including yours”. He smiles smugly, blissfully unaware of the Ramsay Hurricane blowing it's way across the street. He walks to the living room as Tom bursts through the back door demanding to know the address of the motel where Scott is staying. Jim asks what's going on and they tell him about Charlene. Helen points out that Charlene might not come back if she doesn't want to. Tom insists he'll drag her back if he has to. Madge admits that Charlene's note said she's run away and it might not be easy getting her to come back. She wants to ask the boys to talk her into coming back. Helen agrees and suggests they give Scott a ring. Tom refuses to leave until he sees Jim make the call.
At the Ramsays:
Shane tells Paul he spoke to the guys who let him down at work. Turns out they were offered more money to work for another company - a subsidiary of one of Lewis Fleming's companies. He warns Paul again that Debra is bad news and says Paul should check it out himself if he doesn't believe him. Paul doesn't need to check it out. He believes the word of a mate, and gives Shane his job back. He says he'll know by this time tomorrow if Debra's messing him about - he's set a trap.
At Clive's:
Clive is still obsessed with Daphne's wedding. Zoe tells him she's going back to work on Monday, she's sick of sitting at home bored.
At the Robinsons:
Jim finally gets through to Scott and tells him about Charlene. Scott is shocked and wants to know what's happened. Tom and Madge chip in as Jim tries to explain and insist that he doesn't lay a finger on Charlene. He protests that he's not stupid - and besides, Charlene's probably going to her old man's. Madge takes the phone and tells him she left a note saying she was going to Scott. Jim takes the phone back and asks him to act responsibly. He agrees, then hangs up. Tom is even more incensed that he hung up, but Jim assures him he will act responsibly.
Next morning, in Manly:
Scott comes up with a signal for the room - if a thong's on the door, then the other one doesn't go in. (I hope this is a case of lost in translation here and a thong means a shoe, not knickers…) The door goes and Charlene bursts in to a less than enthusiastic reception from Scott, who's worried he'll get in trouble off her folks, and Mike, who thinks she was silly coming up on her own. She protests that she's not on her own, she's got the two of them (Think I'd take my chances on my own, they've turned into dumb and dumber!) Scott thinks she should stay the day and go back tonight but gives in when she says she won't stay if she's not wanted, she has other places she can go - but makes her promise to ring her mum. She reluctantly agrees, but flatly refuses to go back.
At the Ramsays:
Madge is cooking to feed an army to take her mind off Charlene. She tells Danny about the drama last night. He points out that Charlene's over 16 and will be fine with Scott. Tom reckons they should jump in a car and drag her back by the hair - if they don't the next thing they know she'll be pregnant. Just the thing to say to calm Madge down. Danny points out that Scott's sharing with Mike, he can chaperone. This has a better effect on Madge, who agrees that he is a sensible boy (or was until Cassie came along).
In Manly:
Charlene has told Mike and Scott about Nikki and Mike is depressed. Scott reminds him about Cassie and Charlene is keen for all the juicy details, until she remembers Nikki's meant to be her best mate and she and Mike only just broke up…
At the Robinsons:
Jim is hoping that Scott handles the Charlene situation okay. Helen says they have to trust him. Shane interrupts to tell Helen that Paul's given him his old job back, and this means they'll need to re-arrange his driving shifts. Helen is delighted he has his old job back and agrees they'll discuss the driving later on.
In Manly:
Charlene is worried that Scott and Mike will be training all the time. Mike points out that that's why they're there - this isn't a holiday. Besides, she's not meant to be in their room and they don't want the coach to be suspicious. They discuss money and agree they'll have to pool their meals because Charlene has no money. Cassie pops up from behind a bush, shouting to Mike that she's been looking everywhere for him. They introduce her to Charlene who appears to take an instant dislike - maybe not surprising when Cassie points out that Lenny is a boy's name.
At the beach:
Mike and Cassie chase each other along the beach while Scott asks Charlene what she's got against Cassie, he thinks she's okay. Charlene reckons he fancies her himself. He protests and she says she can't stand phoney's - and Cassie's as fake as they come. Cassie and Mike run up and ask if they want to go for a drive. Charlene points out that Scott and Mike have training - this isn't a holiday (Where have I heard that before Mike?). Cassie and Mike won't be swayed and Scott agrees to cover for Mike.
At the office:
Zoe returns to work and finds a contract on her desk (that Paul has cunningly planted there seconds earlier) She chides Paul that he shouldn't leave things like this hanging around, it could cost them a lot of money in the wrong hands, passing his test with flying colours.
At the Ramsays:
Madge is disgusted with Tom who is eating tomato sauce on fried tomatoes. Tom is still harping on about going to Manly and forcing Charlene to come home. Madge has now realised it won't do any good and points out that the only time Tom volunteers to get involved with anything is when he knows he can get into a brawl. The phone rings and she answers it to Charlene who insists she is staying in Manly for a full week, then hangs up as Madge starts to lecture.
Back in Manly:
Cassie welcomes Mike to her humble little home, where a not so humble little man is setting up a dodgy photo shoot in her living room. She introduces him to Mike as a sleazy stunning photographer who has a key to her flat so he can set up while she's not there. Mike doesn't mind waiting while she does a quick photoshoot does he? Nope. He takes a seat as Cassie goes off to get changed, perching on a foot stool like a little boy. Cassie returns to the room in her dressing gown and Mike's eyes almost drop onto the floor when she whips this off ready to flash her bits at the stunning photographer.

No.24
Madge is worried about Charlene being away with Scott. Tom suggests calling Fred, but apparently he has enough problems in Coff's Harbour - his business went down the drain when he was messing around with Susan. So she's given him her diamond ring to help him along a bit - for half its value. Tom protests but Madge says she did get $5,000 for it - Fred wrote her a cheque. Tom is skeptical. Madge breaks the news that Fred is planning to come back to Erinsborough when everything is straightened out.
Cassie's place in Manly
The photographer is just finishing taking photos of Cassie and asks Mike if he's ever done any photography himself. He senses Mike's disgust of naked photos and suggest they have a talk about it. He explains that he used to be an industrial photographer, then with catalogue photographing crockery, so this is much better! Not all nude photographers are perverts, but Mike says it's where the photos end up is what concerns him! (ie in girlie magazines) He storms out.
A road in Manly
Scott and Charlene are walking along and enjoying themselves. Charlene suggests staying forever - there's nothing stopping them. They could get jobs and make it work. Scott isn't sure about this.
Further along the bay, Mike is brooding on the beachfront when Cassie comes along. Mike apologises for storming out, saying he couldn't handle the naked photograph. He likes Cassie, but can't cope with the nudity. Cassie says it's just a job and she's proud of her body - she'll do what she likes with it. She tells him off for judging and then storms off.
Office of the Daniels Corporation
Zoe is typing when Paul and Debra come in. Debra bosses Zoe around and she doesn't look too chuffed. Paul tells her that he's given Shane is job back and she's not happy, saying Shane is totally unreliable. Paul says he knows what he's doing - Shane just had a bit of bad luck.
Coffee Shop
Tom meets Jean and she apologises for not telling him about her husband. Tom says he understands, he was just a bit shaken up and Jeff being so ill must be a huge strain on Jean. He says he'll help her in any way she can and Jean asks if he'd like to meet Jeff to cheer him up a bit. Tom readily agree - they could go this afternoon if she likes.
Office of the Daniels Corporation
Debra moans at Zoe for being late but she counters that she's five minutes early. Debra tells her to take 45 minutes for lunch in future instead of an hour, but Zoe says she works for Paul, not her. Zoe tells Debra that she's manipulating Paul - she knows they've been sleeping together. When Paul comes in, Zoe asks him for a word, but he's needed on the phone before she can talk to him. He says to the person on the other end, "That's all I need to know". When he gets off the phone, Paul tells Zoe to go to the post office to get rid of her.
DEBRA: It's time you were done with her.
PAUL: And it's about time you collected your things and got out. I knew there was a spy around the place, so I set a little trap. And you've just walked right into it.
Manly
Charlene hasn't got a job yet, but she's got an interview as a waitress later. Scott isn't sure - they should go back to school, but Charlene says she'll stay there with or without him. Scott says he'll think about it.
Mike comes in and is in a very bad mood, so snaps at them and goes out again. Charlene and Scott follow him.
A road
Mike tells them that Cassie has broken up with him. Charlene thinks that Cassie is trouble anyway and goes off to her job interview.
Mike tells Scott that Cassie is nude model and Scott thinks that sounds quite good(!) He asks Mike what he thinks of Daphne - she used to be a stripper and it was just a job she had to do. It might be the same with Cassie. Mike decides to go and talk to her again.
Office of the Daniels Corporation
Paul and Debra are having a confrontation. He says she played him for a sucker, but she says she did enjoy being her. As she's leaving, Zoe comes in and Paul tells her what's been happening - he got a private detective to keep an eye on both Debra and Zoe. Debra then made a bid for the Henley Corporation which blew her cover. So, Debra is out.
ZOE: Oh, what a pity. We were getting on so well!
Hospital
Jean has brought Tom to visit her husband, Jeff. He's obviously a sick man, but he's pleased to see Jean and greets Tom happily. Jean mentions that Tom was in Vietnam, just like Jeff. Tom feels a bit awkward, especially when Jeff talks about the plans Jean and he had, but how his injuries stopped all that. Jean has visited him almost every day for 15 years.
When Tom is out of the room, Jeff says he's been expecting Jean to find someone else for quite some time, but she says that Tom is just a friend.

DAPHNE: Exactly. And you can't tell me a thing about bucks' nights, I've probably been to more of them than either of you!
There is an awkward silence.
Paul suggests that they could have the bucks night tonight so that Des could have a whole day to recover tomorrow. Daphne finally relents. Paul and Des are chuffed, but their faces fall when Daphne bans alcohol. Des says he'll get Clive to organise the party and they'll have fun even without beer.

Garden of the Ramsays

He tells Madge that Jean was a nice person and he doesn't know what he's going to tell her husband. Tom says that Jean's husband has guessed how Tom feels about Jean. But Jean was never unfaithful and he wants her husband to know that. Madge begs Tom not to take things out on Shane - she doesn't believe that Shane drank too much - he was hoping to get a chauffering job that evening. She says that Tom has to take Shane's word and help him - he's going to need someone and it should be Tom.
Clive's
Shane is sitting devastated. Clive is on the phone to his lawyer - he says that Shane has a good case, but only if he can find the bloke who gave him the slug of brandy. If not, Shane could get 5-7 years for manslaughter (now there's a cheery thought!)

At the Clarke's:
Zoe is cooking in the kitchen and Tony tells her it smells mighty good. She quips that it's the taste they might have trouble with - especially considering her omelette looks more like scrambled eggs. She thinks her cooking has taken a back seat as she was too busy concentrating on the rest of her life. Tony tells her that's what he likes about her, then asks whether she'd consider coming to work for him - he wants her to be his secretary because everyone knows that secretary's always marry their bosses. Mike barges in just as Tony tells Zoe that was a proposal by the way (it was??) Mike asks whether it's okay for him to move in for a while as Clive's family take up a bit of room.
Outside:
Clive is practising magic tricks on Vicky to try and take her mind off starting her new school. She's more interested once he mentions that Lucy's looking forward to going to school with her and runs off to find her. Graham uses the opportunity to try and talk Clive into getting a “proper” job.
Honeymoon room:
A doctor is torturing Des on the bed and asks how he put his back out. Des and Daphne come up with all sorts of excuses but he rightly diagnoses Hooneymooners back and says he will have to admit Des to hospital for a few days. After their protests he says the only other alternative is for Daphne to slowly drive Des home.
Outside the Clarke's:
Paul offers Zoe a lift to work then quizzes her about Tony. She tells him about Jean's death.
At the coffee shop:
Graham is still belittling Clive's job in the coffee shop. Kate is more supportive but Graham continues to joke about Clive playing tea parties. Clive tells Mike that Graham and Kate will have moved out soon so Mike can move back home. He says at least he has about 2 weeks until Des and Daphne get back….
Honeymoon room:
Daphne is packing to come home while Des sulks on the bed. She jokes that she did take him in sickness and in health. They dream about sneaking home unannounced and having the house to themselves…..
Paul's office:
Paul is dictating a letter with Zoe's help. He offers to buy her lunch to thank her for her hard work but she's swept off by Tony. Paul becomes grouchy and tells her a lunch hour is exactly that.
At the coffee shop:
Kate is helping out clearing tables and Graham tells her there are difficulties with the new house. She says she can't afford to leave yet, they're too busy. Graham is upset because he has no- one to play with. She suggests old colleagues he could catch up with but he's too grumpy. Clive comes out and Kate tells him Graham is going to a medical seminar that night - Clive could go too and she'll mind the shop. Clive smells a rat and refuses to go.
Honeymoon room:
Daphne is feeding Des but he's already sick of being treated like a baby. There's a knock at the door and 2 burly removal men come in to remove Des to the car. They joke about it being his honeymoon then manhandle him out of the room.
Restaurant:
Zoe tells Tony she needs more time to be sure about marrying him. He gives in then says at least come and work for him. She tells him she can't leave Paul because she has to prove she can stick at something rather than flitting from one job to another. He asks her if she has something to prove then how come she's been at lunch for an hour and a half???
At the office:
Paul is very slowly typing when Zoe and Tony return. They burst in play fighting while Paul tries to hear someone on the telephone. Tony leaves and Paul tells Zoe he is looking for an apology for her being late. She offers to make the time up and he answers “you bet you will.”
At Clive's:
Graham tells Mike he's sorry they're pushing him out. Mike is fine about it, families should stick together. Besides, the ape house hasn't been the same since Daphne left. Kate wants to know why it's called the ape house and Mike tells him about Clive's “interesting” previous jobs. He spots Grahams stamp album and Kate tells him it's worth thousands of dollars. Mike leaves and Kate comments that she thinks Mike has a case of hero worship towards Clive. Graham can't see why - Clive's throwing his life away. Kate thinks there are more important things in life than careers.
At the office:
Paul is angry that Zoe isn't going to work back late because she's got a date with Tony. He accuses her of putting her personal life before her responsibilities again. She gets annoyed and shouts that he can't talk - he hasn't even been to see Shane. Even more angry, she tells him about Tony's job offer and storms out shouting that she quits.

At the coffee shop:
Zoe is trying to hire Clive so he can tell Paul exactly what she thinks of him. Clive is scared. Zoe backs down and agrees she needs to tell Paul herself.
At the Clarke's:
Daphne helps Des into the living room then lies him flat on the floor. He asks if a quick foxtrot is out of the question. She laughs but becomes concerned when she hears noises from the bedroom and grabs what looks like a sword off the mantelpiece, then almost decapitates Mike with it when he comes out of the bedroom to see what's going on. She's not impressed when he tells her Zoe said he could stay for a while.
At the coffee shop:
Zoe is writing down what she wants to say to Paul while Clive tries and talks her out of it. Too late, Paul's here. Zoe reads out her speech and Paul walks away. He stops when she asks if the truth hurts, then leaves looking hurt. She wonders if she was a bit strong.
At the Clarke's:
Mike offers to get Clive to have a look at Des's back. Des isn't sure - backs are specialist areas. Mike says he could get Clive's brother, he's a doctor too. Daphne starts to say she and Des were hoping to keep their return quiet but Des points out that the whole street will know by now.
At the coffee shop:
Zoe is still worrying that she went too far with Paul. Graham agrees that the whole thing was humiliating and blames Clive! Zoe puts him straight and Graham says he supposes he'll stop worrying about him - one day. Scott comes in looking for Mike and Zoe tells him he's moved in with Des and Daphne. Clive asks Scott to take over for a while as he's going to see Des's back. They laugh about him injuring it on his honeymoon but sober up when they realise they won't yet know about Jean's death. They agree to keep it secret whilst they're still officially on honeymoon.
At Paul's office:
Shane comes to visit and Paul tells him Zoe has resigned. He admits he likes Zoe but now Tony's on the scene. Shane comments that they're a right pair - Paul and Zoe, and he's still in love with D… he stops himself by changing the subject to the car crash. He's put an ad in the paper for the witness but isn't holding out much hope - he could get 5- 7 years for manslaughter. Zoe returns to the office looking sheepish and Shane leaves. She apologises for what she said earlier but she's still leaving. She agrees to stick around until he finds someone else but he doesn't want anyone else and strokes her cheek - she says this only makes it more impossible for her to stay now, even temporarily. Things are too complicated especially after everything with her and Jim.
At the Clarke's:
Clive and Graham are questioning Des and Daphne on how Des put his back out. They insist they need to know every little detail to make an accurate assessment. Daphne finally twigs they are just being nosy. Zoe returns home and is shocked to see Des on the floor. Clive says he will need to stay that way for a considerable amount of time - at least 2 weeks!
Later:
Des is rolled onto a board and Daphne gets cranky with the considerable crowd that has gathered, complaining that her honeymoon has been ruined. Kate offers to bring over the left over wedding food and Des apologises to Daphne for turning things into a circus. She is just pleased he is alright.
At the coffee shop:
Shane is down in the dumps. So is Paul. He suggests they go out on the town to cheer themselves up.
Back at the Clarke's:
Zoe warns Tony not to make any cute comments about Des's back. He ignores her and asks Des if this is what Daphne does to him on their first married night what else can she do to him? Daphne comments that he hasn't changed - still only opens his mouth to change his socks. He leaves Des for a minute and asks Zoe what Paul said when she was late back from lunch. To Daphne's horror Zoe tells him that she quit. Tony is thrilled.
At the coffee shop:
Depression must be the special of the day at the coffee shop. Now Mike is down in the dumps - he's reading a letter from Nikki. He tells Scott he really misses her. Scott reminds him he didn't miss her too much while he was away. Mike thinks maybe he should have stayed behind with Cassie, he has nothing here now and will only be in the way at Des and Daphne's. Scott suggests he move in with The Robinsons.
At the Clarke's:
Daphne asks Zoe if she is going to accept Tony's proposal. She doesn't know - she jumped in with Jim before and is scared to commit herself again. Also, Tony doesn't know that she might not be able to have children. Daphne suggests she takes up Tony's job offer, that'll give her time to think things through at least.
Outside the Waterhole:
Shane wants to go home but Paul suggests going to a disco, despite the fact it's so light it must be only just past tea time. Shane tells Paul he never wants to drink again, it's the reason he's where he is now. Paul reminds him he was trying to do something nice by driving Jean home, is he going to give up being a nice guy as well? Shane replies that he might as well. He's got no chance of proving his innocence without finding the man who gave him the booze, the only thing for him to do now is nick off!
