At the Clarke's:
Des and Daphne are snogging in the living room when they are interrupted by Mrs Mangel. Nice. She has a good nosy about how Des hurt his back and, to Daphne's delight, Des tells her he was lifting one bag too many. Mrs Mangel improves Daphne's mood still further by commenting that Des's poor back couldn't take the strain of all that extra weight. She changes the subject and asks Des if he will provide her with a character reference but Daphne throws her out, saying Des cannot possibly write lying down (she's right, the pens don't work. Although he could have used a pencil).
At Clive's:
Clive is enjoying his first home cooked meal in a while whilst Kate tells them how well Vicky and Lucy are getting on. Graham suggests they all go out for a picnic tomorrow but Clive can't, it's Jeans funeral. He gets upset thinking that Jean's husband can't even attend as he's a paraplegic. He gets into another argument with Graham about how little medicine has done to help Jean's husband.
At the Ramsay's:
Shane is still blaming himself for the accident. Madge tries to comfort him but there's nothing doing. He tells her he's going away and she tears a strip off him but is unable to change his mind.
At Clive's:
Mrs Mangel is delighted to meet Clive's brother, a real doctor. She interrogates Kate on their background and warns her about her new neighbours, she thinks a stable influence in this house is just what the neighbourhood needs. As she is leaving she has a wonderful idea - Graham could provide her with the character reference she needs. He refuses as he doesn't really know her. Unlike Clive who quickly offers to provide the reference himself. Mrs Mangel makes a hasty exit!
At the Waterhole:
Tony is still pestering Zoe to marry him but she's hedging. Eventually she says she can't marry him as she hasn't told him everything - she might not be able to have children. Tony is shocked but stutters out it doesn't “really” change anything. Zoe leaves.
At the Clarke's:
Zoe returns home upset. Daphne asks what's wrong and Zoe says she told Tony everything. Daphne is furious until she finds out Tony hasn't actually said he wouldn't marry Zoe because she can't have children. She thinks Zoe may be jumping to conclusions. Des is practical and asks what this means for Zoe's job. Zoe replies that she can't work for Tony now and goes off to bed. Daphne kisses Des's forehead and wishes him goodnight, then leaves him. He sulks, but she comes back out of the bedroom with a pillow and cuddles up next to him on the floor.
Next morning, at the Clarke's:
Zoe is sneaking out with all her suitcases, at 7.30 in the morning! She wakes Des and Daphne and she and Daphne argue about her leaving. Des is grumpy at being woken and yells at Zoe to go and unpack, she's not going anywhere, then orders Daphne into the kitchen to make his breakfast! He's going back to sleep.
At Clive's:
Tony has come to ask Clive's advice. He bumbles about until Clive manages to get out of him that he still loves Zoe regardless of whether she can have children or not. Clive tells him he's come to the right man, Gibbons is now on the job and everything will work out just fine. I've heard that one before.
At the Clarke's:
Graham and Daphne are slowly walking Des round the room, then sit him on the couch. Graham thinks they can get rid of the board now, in fact some exercise will be good. Des and Daphne chuckle delightedly until Graham sets them straight - no “strenuous exercise”. Some honeymoon! Clive comes in and talks to Zoe, he tells her how much Tony loves her and that he's just awkward with words, unlike himself. He recommends that she grab Tony with both hands. Tony sticks his head round the door and Zoe does just that!
At the Waterhole:
Paul is interviewing for bar staff. Shane comes in and tells him he's spent most of the night looking for the missing witness, eventually sleeping in a pub. He didn't make the funeral today but couldn't face himself if he didn't face Jean's husband before he shot through. Now he feels ashamed because his problems are nothing compared to that. It's changed his mind about leaving and he's ready to face whatever is thrown at him.
At Clive's:
Graham is moaning to Kate about Clive wasting his life. For a change. Clive comes in and Graham starts straight in about him wasting his talent. Clive responds that he's heard all this before - haven't we all! Clive is already upset as he's just come home from Jean's funeral and tells Graham if he wants to know the real reason he quit medicine then he'll tell him…

At Clive's:
Clive tells Graham and Kate that he was in love with a girl called Linda and had planned to marry her. Unfortunately, she died of a cerebral haemorrhage while he was out at work. She had rung him at work complaining of a headache and he'd been angry at her disturbing him, told her to take an aspirin and go to bed. He put work first and she died. Graham argues that he was a good doctor and what happened was not his fault but Clive can't forgive himself and won't, ever.
At the Ramsay's:
Charlene and Madge feel they shouldn't have gone to the funeral, it was a family affair. Tom argues that they were her friends and had every right to be there - and Shane should have been too. Charlene thinks he should see it from Shane's point of view but Tom can't. Madge sends Charlene off to the shop to buy them some lunch, then apologises to Tom. They start to argue but are interrupted by Danny on the phone. Tom tells her not to mention Jean to him and she lies that everything's fine.
Outside:
Scott is mowing the nature strip but stops to chat to Charlene. They moan about how they are being treated like 5 year olds, not being allowed to see each other. They decide to meet up at the back of Lassiters - Scott will go now and Charlene will follow two minutes behind. Cunning plan, except Mrs Mangel has spied on them and decides to follow.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge and Tom are discussing Shane “shooting through”. Madge is adamant he will be back before the Court case and will need Tom's support when he returns. Tom isn't impressed.
Behind Lassiters:
Charlene wanders about shouting for Scott who is hiding in some bushes. She walks past his hiding spot but is followed by Mrs Mangel. Thinking Mrs M is Charlene Scott jumps out and hugs her! Mrs Mangel whacks him with her handbag and Charlene looks horrified.
At Clive's:
Graham (finally) apologises to Clive for the way he's treated him. Clive graciously accepts his apology. Graham promises to give up the big brother act, he will support him in whatever he wants to do from now on. Clive is relieved and decides to celebrate with a neighbourhood bbq. Kate is unsure about the timing, with the funeral and everything. Clive just thinks that's all the more reason to celebrate.
At the Robinson's:
Helen hugs Shane and tells him she's thrilled he's back (he's only been gone a night!) as she thought she'd have to find another driver. He thinks she should probably still do that, incase things go badly in Court. Optimistic Helen says innocent people don't get convicted and asks him to do a driving job for her that afternoon. He is reluctant as he's nervous driving now but allows her to talk him into it. He goes off to let Madge and Tom know he's back. Helen tells Paul she has a favour to ask of him too - will he move back home whilst his father's in the States (he's going on a business trip)? He agrees as he's sick of hotel food.
At the Ramsay's:
Shane apologises to Tom for not being at the funeral and tells him he was at the hospital instead. Tom backs down and says that was probably harder than going to the funeral. They talk about finding the man who gave Shane the brandy and Shane says it's hopeless. Besides, he doesn't reckon he'd recognise him even if he could find him. He answers the door whilst saying this and despite my expectations that it's going to be the Brandy Man it's actually Mrs Mangel, come to tell tales about frisky teenagers in the bushes at Lassiters. Madge is horrified and Shane throws Mrs Mangel out as Charlene creeps in rather sheepishly. She ignores Madge's demands for her to explain herself by quizzing Shane on when he got back but Madge will not be ignored. She tries to tell Madge that she only met Scott to talk but Madge is more worried about what Mrs Mangel will tell the neighbours. Charlene walks out, upset that Madge cares more about the neighbours than she does about her.
At the Robinson's:
Mrs Mangel has moved her sights on to Scott and is complaining to Helen that she's still having palpitations, in fact it's a miracle that she's able to stand here talking to her. Paul agrees that indeed it is and throws her out, assuring her that Scott's punishment will fit his crime. Helen answers the phone to Madge, also complaining about Scott. She hangs up and tells Scott she was hoping Jim could go away on his trip with nothing to worry about. Scott is annoyed - they only wanted to talk. Further argument is prevented when Jim comes in asking who's upset Mrs Mangel? Helen lies that she's upset because Clive's having a bbq and Mrs M hasn't been invited. Jim buys it and asks has he been invited? Reassured that he has, he goes off to change and Paul tells Scott that he will sort him out himself. Scott tells him to forget it and storms out. Paul comments to Helen that she didn't warn him he was going to be chucked into the deep end.
Outside:
Mrs Mangel smirks as Charlene crosses the street to talk to her, thinking she has come to apologise. Charlene quickly sets her straight and asks her who she thinks she is interfering in everyone's lives? Mrs Mangel is shocked by the wicked child and tells her she's a wastrel, just like her father. Charlene retaliates that Mrs M's family don't even come near her, probably can't stand the sight of her. Madge hurries over as Charlene begins questioning whether Mr Mangle is chained in the back yard incase he escapes. She apologises to Mrs Mangel and drags Charlene home, who shouts a final “stupid old bag!” over her shoulder for good luck.
At the Ramsay's:
Clive invites Tom and Madge to the bbq. Charlene is thrilled but Madge tells her she's not going anywhere. She asks Charlene what she thought she was playing at speaking to Mrs Mangel like that. Charlene answers that she deserved it, but agrees that it will probably make her worse. Madge calmly tries to explain that even though it seems like she's being tough on Charlene she's only trying to protect her from herself. Charlene shakes her head and says all she wants to do is have some fun. Madge is upset at this and says Charlene has always thrown everything she's ever done for her back in her face. Charlene gets off her high horse and says she wasn't thinking but Madge says that's her trouble, she never does.
Outside:
Shane is dressed in his chauffeur uniform as Helen wishes him luck. She reminds him he's a good driver but he's nervous. His hand shakes as he starts the car and Helen watches him drive off, concerned.
At the Waterhole:
Paul is working behind the bar as his barman's off sick! The punters are complaining and a familiar face offers to give him a hand behind the bar. I'd recognise that huge moustache anywhere, it's Brandy Man and wouldn't you know it - he's looking for a bar job! He introduces himself as Alex Carter and Paul agrees to let him help out for the rest of the shift.
At an office block/hotel:
Shane picks up his client and starts to drive out of the car park but is cut up by a hoon. He apologises to his client but tells him he has to get out - he can't drive. The client is outraged and says he won't be putting any more business his way but Shane is frozen to the wheel, reliving the car crash and Jean's death. Incase anyone had forgotten the Brandy Man's huge moustache we are also treated to a flashback of him giving Shane the brandy, then cut to Paul in the bar telling him he's got the job and can start right now.

At the Robinson's:
Paul is telling Helen about the new barman and Scott chips in that he won't keep him long if Paul treats the barman the same way he treats him. Paul smirks that he won't have to - with any luck he'll be disciplined, hard working and know who's boss. Scott protests “well you're not mine”. Jim comes in and asks Scott why doesn't he go and help Clive set up for the bbq. Paul jumps in and says Scott wants to stay home and finish his homework. Seething, Scott agrees and says he might not be able to make it at all. Jim leaves and Paul and Scott start to argue again. Helen answers the telephone and tries to placate the client Shane let down, while Paul and Scott continue to bicker. She hangs up and tells them Shane has nearly had another accident.
At Lassiter's lake:
Jim meets Shane looking like he's about to drown himself in the lake. He asks whether he wants to go for a drink with him but Shane replies that he's giving up the grog. Besides, he needs to talk to Helen.
At Clive's:
Vicky and Lucy are looking at pictures of Vicky's horse. They both love horses and wish there were some they could ride around here. Kate and Clive talk about Linda in the kitchen and Kate promises that although Graham still doesn't fully understand why Clive no longer wants to practice medicine he will come round in time.
At the Robinson's:
Paul is praising Helen's baking and comments on how long Shane is taking to come round. Scott is still complaining about not being able to go to the bbq. Helen tries to send Paul off to Clive's to keep the peace but he won't go, preferring to stay and wait for Shane. Luckily Shane's here now. He apologises to Helen then asks if Paul is going to rub his nose in this now. Helen sends Paul off to the bbq with her cake and he departs with a last warning to Scott not to get any ideas about seeing Lennie. Helen and Shane go through to the lounge and she asks him what happened. He apologises again and says he can't handle driving anymore. He's lost his nerve. She reminds him that Jean's accident wasn't his fault and he should get straight back onto the horse. He is worried because he's had 2 major accidents and doesn't want there to be a third. Helen reminds him that neither accident was his fault but he argues that with him on board as he is they're going to end up ruining the business. He's going to have to quit. She refuses to accept this and says for now she will do the driving herself.
Outside Clive's:
The bbq is in full swing. Kate asks Paul if he's found a new secretary yet and Vicky tells Paul he should hire Kate. Clive interrupts and says Paul can't steal his help from the coffee shop, besides - who would look after Vicky after school? Paul suggests Charlene could do it, she did a good job looking after Bradley (and it would keep her away from Scotty, right Paul??) . Worried now, Clive calls in Graham as back up. Surely he has some old fashioned, chauvinistic view about his wife working? Nope. Clive resorts to begging and points out Paul's a terrible boss, just ask Zoe. Paul says that as Zoe is coming to the bbq she can tell Kate all about the job herself. Vicky and Lucy chorus “Poor Clive”.
At the Ramsay's:
Not just poor Clive, Madge is dressed in her Sunday best in order to impress Paul - she wants the secretary job herself. Tom teases her that Paul won't go for an old chook like her when he can hire a zippy young spunk with a body like dynamite. In the living room Charlene uses the distraction as a chance to call Scott.
At the Robinson's:
On the other end of the phone, Scott tells Helen it's a kid from school - sneakily omitting which kid from school. In the kitchen Helen tells Shane she's had enough drama for one day. They discuss her taking over Home James and she attempts to reassure him again that he won't go to jail. He's not convinced. Without the man who gave him the booze he's got Buckley's.
At the Waterhole:
The man who gave Shane the booze is serving Tom, Clive and Graham who've come to pick up booze for the bbq. They chat away about his past and give him lots of information about themselves in the process, considering they've only just met. Deciding to have a quick drink before heading back to the bbq they raise a toast to Jean.
At the Ramsay's:
Charlene hears Shane come in and, thinking he's Scott, calls for him to come through to the living room. Shane grabs a pot plant and presents it to her, telling her she's lucky he's not her mother. She's not worried - Madge is at the bbq and won't be back for ages. Shane shakes his head knowingly - Madge has got a nose on her like a bloodhound and will know the minute Scott gets there. So, in her absence he's going to take charge and forbids her to ever see Scott again. Unlike Scott, Charlene isn't quite so willing to take instruction from her elders and merely pulls a face at Shane before picking up the phone to Danny. He wants to speak to Shane and they chat for a while about how good his new life is. He's met a girl and will tell Shane about her when he writes. When Shane hangs up Charlene asks why he didn't tell him how much trouble he's in but Shane didn't want to worry him. He settles down into the armchair and Charlene asks isn't he going to the bbq? Won't be much fun hanging around here. Spying Scott enter the kitchen Shane quips that he's sure she and Scott can think of a way to entertain him. He laughs as Scott tells Charlene he's brought over the reference books she wanted then tries to get Charlene to pay him to keep quiet. She tells him to get out of it before pulling Scott towards her for a kiss. Shane groans that he's off to the bbq after all, has to be better than putting up with this! Charlene breaks away from Scott to ask Shane to tell Madge that she's studying hard and being a good girl. Shane agrees but warns her not to hold him responsible if Madge does find out. He goes out, encouraging Scott to “go on Scotty, pash!”. Not that Scott needs any encouraging.
At Clive's:
Madge tries to sell herself to Paul for the secretary job, until he tells her he's just offered the job to Kate. Shane comes in and Madge asks what Charlene's upto, perhaps she should go and check. Shane replies that there's no need, when he left she was hard at it…
At the Ramsay's:
Charlene and Scott are still hard at it until Charlene pulls away saying she needs to finish her homework. Scott is disappointed and wants to know what the sudden interest in her homework's about. She tells him she's trying to get Madge off her back - sometimes she wishes she'd been born a boy. Scott teases that some people can't really tell the difference… The phone rings and Charlene has a strange conversation with someone she hasn't seen in ages then hangs up saying she'll come over right away. Scott is intrigued and wants to go with her but she tells him no, she has to do this on her own. He agrees to do her homework for her on condition that she tells him what all this is about later.
Outside Clive's:
Jim and Zoe have a quiet chat and she tells him about moving in with Tony. He tells her he'll miss her and that he hopes she'll be happy.
Run down street somewhere:
Charlene pauses outside a derelict looking house, before walking through the gate.
Back on Ramsay Street:
Zoe is saying goodbye to Paul and giving Kate tips on being his secretary. Kate goes inside leaving Paul free to say how much he'll miss Zoe. She cuts him short as she sees Tony coming and they drive off leaving Paul looking wistful.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is searching for Charlene and twigs that Scott has been round when she finds his school book. She sees Shane's guilty look and yells that he should have told her that Scott was there. He laughs that he doesn't see what the big deal is and Madge storms off to the Robinsons.
At the Robinsons:
Madge barges into the kitchen demanding that Scott tell her where her daughter is. He protests that he knows nothing about it. Madge accuses him of being a bare faced liar. Helen joins in the argument and says it's not fair for Scott to get the blame for this. Madge says she doesn't want to fight with her but Helen replies that if she's going to behave like this that's exactly what will happen.

At the Robinsons:
Madge is furious with Scott, saying he's plotted and schemed ever since Charlene came here. Scott shouts back that he cares about her a lot, maybe he even loves her, but he respects her too (Charlene that is, not Madge!). Helen joins in that Madge hassles and nags Charlene so much that the poor kid doesn't know where she is. Enraged, Madge questions how dare she tell her how to bring up her child - just look at her lot. Helen answers that she's proud of her family and the way they lead their lives. Madge thinks she can't be blamed for her daughter falling into bad company but Helen shouts back that she treats Charlene like a child then wonders why she doesn't trust her. Madge has heard enough and leaves with the parting comment that she won't bother her in the future, and Scott will not see Charlene again.
At the Clarke's:
Des is desperate for a kiss but Daphne doesn't want them to rush things. She eventually gives in and Des comments that he can't wait for them to start a family. He'll have to wait a bit longer though as Mike comes in to join them. He's rushed home to tell Daphne the profits at the coffee shop are up 20%. Daphne tries to get him to go and see Scott but he's too scared as he's just seen Madge coming out spitting chips. Twigging that Des and Daphne want to be alone he goes off to his bedroom. Des and Daphne take up where they left off, but Daphne now has her mind on other things - 20%…
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is telling Tom that Helen has blown things out of all proportion but he's wise enough to realise that Madge is also to blame. Charlene sneaks back in through the front door and Shane warns her that Aunty Madge is on the war path - he had to tell her that Scott had been there. He smacks her bum and sends her through to the kitchen to see her mum. Madge is less than thrilled to see Charlene and asks her where she's been. Sulky Charlene mutters “out”. Tom sarcastically wonders why they didn't think of that. He says Scott shouldn't have been round - he's been banned. Charlene says he just dropped off some books for her, but if Madge doesn't want her to do her homework that's fine by her. Madge insists she wants the truth but Charlene says there's no point - she doesn't believe a single word she says - and walks out.
At the Robinson's:
Helen and Scott are waiting for Jim to leave and Helen mutters that she doesn't think they should say anything to him about this afternoon. Jim comes out with his cases and gives Scott a goodbye hug, telling him he's really pleased he's settled down (if only he knew).
At the Ramsay's:
Madge and Charlene are washing up, while Shane looks through the paper for an answer to his ad looking for the Brandy man. He thinks he has no chance without him but Tom says a jury will take his good character and driving skills into account. It's a pity his father's only a plumber though. And sometimes you get a Judge who says guilty to everyone just so they can get away and have another Scotch… not helping Tom! Madge finally shuts him up and tells Charlene to bring her homework out to the kitchen table where she can keep an eye on her. Tom remarks that she'd said he was hard on Shane but he reckons Madge could teach the Mafia a thing or two! Charlene comes out with her books and slams them onto the table.
At the Clarke's:
Daphne is lighting candles at the table and banishes Mike back to his room, telling him not to come out again no matter what. Des comes out of the bedroom and she tells him that as they couldn't go on honeymoon, Fiji has come to them… Just as they sit down to eat Scott barges in looking for Mike. Trying to keep a lid on his temper Des shouts for Mike to come out as Daphne asks Scott how Lennie is. Scott glumly asks her if he can talk to her about it and much to Des's dismay Daphne agrees and goes to chat to Scott in the living room, leaving him to sit alone at his Fijian honeymoon table.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is trying to round everyone up for church. Charlene tells her she can't go, she has too much homework to do. Shane quickly adds that he has to go into work too and Tom, realising he's next in line, kindly offers to stay at home and babysit Charlene. Charlene protests that she's not a child but Madge is pleased with Tom's offer and goes off to church happy. Once she's gone Tom says he'll go into work with Shane to make sure Paul isn't ripping him off. Now Shane's the one doing the protesting. Besides, what about Charlene? Tom says she doesn't need watching, she's not a child… They leave and Charlene heads into the kitchen where she throws food into a bag.
Outside:
Mike and Scott are kicking a ball about when Mike spies trouble heading towards them. Trouble (aka Charlene) asks Scott not to tell Madge he's seen her nipping out. He reluctantly agrees but wants to know where she's going. She tells him “just out” and says its better he doesn't know, he won't get into trouble that way. Mike wisely tells Scott to pray Charlene gets back on time, or he'll cop it again.
At the Waterhole:
Alex is helping Paul in the bar and heads to the cellar to check the kegs just as Shane and Tom come in. Now there's timing. Paul congratulates Shane on the work he's done around the complex and says he'll recommend Shane for more work. Alex shouts up to Paul to turn the taps on and Shane asks who that is. Paul tells him it's the new barman, then they leave discussing how they've not found the missing witness yet, just as the missing witness (ie Alex) comes up from the cellar.
At the Clarke's:
Des and Daphne are cuddling on the couch (do they ever move from there??) when Mike comes home and interrupts them again. He goes to his room but they start arguing - Des is annoyed at having Mike under his feet and Daphne is annoyed that Des is annoyed. They begin a proper row and the camera pans to Mike who is listening uncomfortably.
At the Robinson's:
Scott is spelling out to Helen how miserable Mike is at the moment. He wonders if he could move in with them for a while? Helen doesn't want him to move in but agrees he can stay over from time to time. Scott is delighted and rushes over to tell Mike, almost knocking Paul over on the way. Paul is far from delighted about Mike being invited to stay without anyone consulting him but Helen sets him straight - she makes the decisions about the day to day running of this household.
At the Clarke's:
Des tries to apologise to Mike, who keeps interrupting with his own apologies. Scott tells them that Helen has agreed Mike can stay with them for a few days and Des keenly agrees too. Daphne is shocked and tries to protest but Des tells her it'll be fun for Mike. Mike goes off to pack and Des and Daphne resume their standard position cuddling on the couch.
At the Ramsay's:
Charlene sneaks back home and just makes it to her books before Madge, Tom and Shane return home. Madge is upset with Tom as he'd promised to keep an eye on Charlene - although she's happy to say she didn't need it. She goes off to fix lunch as eagle eyed Shane whispers to Charlene that she hasn't done a thing! In the kitchen Madge is confused to find the fridge is bare and worries that she must have left the meat in the shop. Charlene offers to go and buy some takeaway and when Madge isn't keen Shane offers to go with her - he's going to help Paul move some things in his office anyway.
Outside:
Charlene makes a beeline for Scott but is stopped by Shane. He caves in when she makes doe eyes at him and agrees she can have a minute. She runs to Scott who strops that she almost got him killed, and is less than thrilled when she asks him to do her another favour - she can't make it to school tomorrow and needs him to cover for her. He reluctantly agrees, thinking now she will tell him what's going on, but she says he'll just have to trust her. She stops his complaining with a kiss but they are broken apart by Shane.
At the Waterhole:
Paul and Shane enter the bar, Paul thanking Shane for his help. Shane half jokes that he might have to get used to hard labour. The new barman turns round to serve them and Paul introduces Shane to Alex who comments that they've met before. Shane doesn't recognise him and Alex has to remind him that he's the man who gave him the Brandy after his car accident (and could now prevent him being sent to jail…).

At the Waterhole:
Shane is thrilled to finally find Alex but tells him he'll never know the trouble he caused giving him the Brandy. Paul explains that he was breathalysed and found over the limit, and is in Court tomorrow. Alex apologises and explains he went off to get help, he thought that would be more use. He agrees to go to the police as soon as he gets off. Paul says that's right now, he'll look after the bar.
At the Robinson's:
Lucy and Vicky are drooling over horses. Scott and Mike are engrossed in a magazine. Helen tells them all she's just popping next door and they all ignore her. She adds that she may never come back and is still ignored so leaves. Lucy asks Scott to turn the music down but he refuses so she turns it off. He yells at her and they start fighting. Scott and Mike tease the girls about horses so they go outside.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is still frosty with Helen, who was hoping to discuss their difference of opinion like grown ups. They continue fighting though when Helen says she can't believe Scott is responsible for any of Charlene's problems. Madge gets on the defensive but they stop fighting when Charlene comes in and asks them if they're still having a blazing row. They insist they do not have blazing rows and go into the kitchen for a civilised cup of tea. Charlene follows, arguing that if there was a war she and Scott are old enough to fight for their country. Madge counteracts that there WILL be a war if she tries to see Scott before she says she can.
At the Robinson's:
Scott and Mike are lounging around listening to music as Lucy and Vicky wander in and out with various items, then start banging in the kitchen. Scott goes in to check on them and finds Lucy hammering a mop to a wheelbarrow to make a horse. He warns her that they'd better get it out of there before Paul comes in and throws his weight around.
At Paul's new office:
Paul is admiring his new door sign when Shane and Alex return from the cop shop. Shane still has to front up in Court but he shouldn't be facing a manslaughter charge anymore, thanks to Alex. Paul thinks Shane should put it all behind him now and shows him the new door - which has Ramsay Landscaping and Gardening stencilled onto it. Shane is amazed that a bloke like him could have his name on a door like that! He gloats that Paul's name isn't on the door but Paul replies that the whole Country will know his name one day.
At the Robinson's:
Helen admires Lucy's horse and asks to see her ride it. Lucy refuses to while Scott and Mike are watching. Scott teases that she can't ride a horse so she gets on to prove him wrong. He laughs that that's not riding a horse - before tipping up the wheelbarrow and wheeling her screaming around the kitchen. Paul comes in and demands to know what's going on. Helen sets him straight but it's not long before he starts on Scott, telling him he can't go into town on a school night. Scott has had enough and asks Helen for back up but she sits on the fence saying it's between him and Paul. Scott storms out and Paul says while his dad's away Scott's going to have to play by his rules.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge is telling Shane that he has to be well dressed for Court - it saved Henry's neck countless times. She asks Charlene why she's so keen to get off to school this morning and guesses that she's off to meet Scott instead. Charlene protests and Shane sticks up for her, asking how she's supposed to avoid Scott when they're in the same class? Madge is well aware of that, but they're not to see each other outside.
At the Robinson's:
Paul offers to give Scott and Mike a lift to school but Scott refuses, saying he's only doing it because he doesn't want him to see Lennie. Paul answers that he was just trying to patch things up between them, but as he's been told to keep away from Lennie he should make sure that he does. Mike and Scott leave and Paul complains to Helen that he can't even open his mouth without Scott being unreasonable. Helen points out that Scott's under a lot of pressure exams, and comments that it isn't easy being Big Daddy is it…
Outside:
Charlene joins Mike and Scott to walk to school. Mrs Mangel meets them and asks if they all know Jane - her granddaughter, in their class at school. She will be coming to stay with her while her parents are overseas and she expects them to make her feel welcome. They go off to school with Charlene laughing that it's no wonder Jane's such a dag. Mike defends her but Charlene's having none of it. She gives Scott a note from her mum to give to the principle saying she won't be in school that day. Scott twigs that the note's a forgery and Mike asks why she isn't going. She refuses to tell them but says it's nothing crooked. Giving Scott a peck on the cheek she runs off leaving Mike to look at Scott in exasperation.
At the office:
Helen is taking new bookings but worries that she doesn't know if she's got a driver. Shane sticks his head round the door and very glumly tells her it looks like she's got a chauffeur on her hands. She is delighted. Madge says she has to get off home to keep an eye on Charlene but Helen thinks its time she started showing her a bit of trust. Madge replies she'd like to do that more than anything but can't.
Dodgy derelict house:
A very untrustworthy Charlene is walking down the path.
On Ramsay Street:
Scott and Mike are returning home from school and are caught up by Charlene. Scott tells her he handed her note in and Mr White bought it. She starts to head home but is stopped by Lucy wheeling her new horse. Lucy tells Scott that Helen has a shopping list for him. He tries to get her to do it for him but she's got her paper round to do. Mike offers to do it instead but Scott says he'll try and talk to Paul and tell him about all his school work. Charlene encourages him to stick up for himself and goes home.
At the Ramsay's:
Madge has made Charlene a snack and quizzes her about her school and teachers while she eats it. Charlene is evasive. Madge sits with her and says she wishes they could put the whole business with Scott behind them. She wants them to talk more and realises that she used to lecture Henry a lot - and look at where he ended up. She tells Charlene she'd do anything in the world for her and Charlene starts to open up but then stops herself. She says she'll finish her snack in her room.
At the office:
Mrs Mangel has come to see Helen and remarks that she was telling Charlene and Scott about her granddaughter that morning. Paul's ears prick up and he asks if she's sure she saw Charlene and Scott. She smiles maliciously and says they're still as romantic as ever. But she didn't come here to chat about young love birds, she wants Helen to give her a reference as she's applying for a position. Helen asks what position and she hands over a letter. Helen smiles as she's applying to be a lollypop lady. Mrs Mangel would prefer to call it a school crossing monitor. Helen and Paul have to stifle their laughter.
Random street:
Lucy is doing her paper round and sees a man who looks suspiciously like Alex Carter looking suspiciously into one of the houses. She knows that the Murphy's are away as they cancelled their newspaper. She creeps closer and we see that Alex is cutting through a padlock to enter the house.

Helen asks Scott where he's put the groceries; Scott admits he hasn't done them as he had too much homework as Paul comes in. Paul gives Scott a lecture about his responsibilities and how he should be pulling his weight around the house. Which is the reason why he has devised a duty schedule which he sticks on the fridge. Scott whinges about that he has too much homework to do chores!
Lucy arrives home and tells them she saw a man breaking into the `Murphy` House.

Charlene takes Lucy off into the living room to give her a boxing lesson, while there she asks Lucy to give Scott a message to meet her in the garage at 9 o'clock. Madge and Helen go into the living room and try to persuade Charlene to look after the girls but she refuses.
Once Helen and Lucy leave Madge tells Charlene she better had a very good excuse as to why she can't look after the girls. Madge isn't taking no for an answer as it is the Robinsons and tells Charlene that as from tomorrow she will be looking after the girls.

Paul says he will put the rubbish out, Scott offers to do it for him, but Paul insists that they must stick to the roster. Lucy asks for a sandwich but Paul says she can't have one because it is her bedtime. Lucy is not happy and asks Helen for a least a story. Paul says no - that she has to be asleep. Helen replies that they can't all stick to the schedule and agrees to read her a story. Lucy kisses everyone with the exception of Paul and asks when Dad (Jim) is coming back. Paul calls Lucy back asking for a goodnight kiss.
Once Lucy has left the room, Paul takes Helen to task for giving into Lucy over the story. Helen informs Paul that he can't run his home like he does his business. Paul insists that he is just trying to bring some organisation into the house so that everyone shares the housework for Helen. Helen says that is all very well but she would also like some peace! Paul gets all huffy and says that Helen asks him to move back to help out and if he is not being of any help he could move back to Lasisters. Helen says she doesn't want him to do that and she knows Scott is being difficult but not any different to the way Paul use to act at his age. Paul reluctantly agrees to go easy on Scott.
Scott walks past with the rubbish and Paul asks what he is doing. Paul is not convinced why Scott suddenly wants to do this chore and accuses him of wanting to sneak out to see Charlene. Scott denies this and hands the rubbish to Paul saying he can do if he wants to.

Alex then comments on some the nice things Madge has in the house and that Tom had shown him Shane's diving trophies. On hearing this Madge tells Shane he should lock them up because there is a burgular in the area and that a little girl next door has seen him breaking into a house in Jackson Street. Everyone seethes but says nothing.

When Kate has gone, Clive sits with Vicky and she says she's scared that the police won't catch Alex Carter. Clive reassures her.
The Pub
Shane tells Paul that he thinks Alex stole from the till. Paul doesn't believe it though, he thinks it was the biker chick, and after all, Alex did save Shane's life. Just then the police come in looking for Alex saying they want to talk to him about attempted robbery and assault. They say they'd like to search Alex's room.
Clive's
Kate comes home from the hospital to find Clive alone in the living room still playing with his puppet(!) Apparently the surgeons are happy about Graham but there are no guarantees yet. Kate wishes that they'd never moved from the country - she never really wanted to leave the peace and quiet anyway. But the city had more opportunities for them. Now with the state Graham's in, she thinks it was a mistake.
Caravan
Paul is apologising to the biker chick and offers her a raise to make up for things.
Ramsays
Madge is going to the Coffee Shop so tells Charlene that Susan will have to manage on her own for a while. Charlene thanks Madge for looking after Susan.

Caravan
Shane and the biker chick are having a cup of tea. She tells him off for being soft! But she says he's been a perfect gentleman and that's great. They have a little pash but at that moment Daphne walks in. She is surprised and says she'll come back at a better time.

But Daphne says she's married to Des and she doesn't think about Shane anymore. Shane says he's learned his lesson and he's not going from girl to girl anymore. Daphne says good-humouredly that she'll believe it when she sees it!
The Coffee Shop
Mike has come top in the maths test with 92%. Apparently he beat Jane and everyone is surprised. Obviously she has purposely done badly but she's very pleased for Mike. Mike says they should make a toast to Jane for being a good loser. Jane looks even more pleased!
The Waterhole
Shane comes in to find the biker chick pretty fed up with him. She wants to know what's going on with Daphne. Shane says he cares about her, but Daphne is married now. He admits he's been avoiding Des and Daphne since they got back from their honeymoon. He asks the biker chick if he can come with her when she moves on. She agrees as long as it's a "no-strings" arrangement.
The Coffee Shop
Charlene asks Mike if he's asked Sharon to the dance yet - but she thinks he's mad because she's stuck-up and he won't have any fun with her. Charlene suggests that Mike asks Jane instead(!) Jane is mortified but Charlene says he owes it to her after beating her in the test(!)
Mrs Mangel comes in at that moment and orders Jane home. Apparently the maths teacher has rung about the test. Mrs Mangel doesn't think that Jane has done her best in the test. She says making posters for the school dance is a waste of time - noone will ask Jane to go to the dance anyway(!) She says it's better for Jane to concentrate on her schoolwork. Jane runs out of the Coffee Shop in tears. Daphne runs after her.
Scott takes Mrs Mangel on and says that last night at his place, she said that Jane shouldn't show herself to be too clever or she'd never get a boyfriend - she's giving out mixed messages.
Suddenly Charlene realises what's happened - Jane has thrown the test on purpose.
Charlene shouts at Mrs Mangel saying that she's always telling Jane that she's ugly and it's not on. Charlene tells Mike that Jane really wanted him to take her to the dance. Mike is appalled to hear about Jane throwing the test.
